MILAN, Italy -- Novara claimed its first win in six games with a 2-1 victory over Lazio on Wednesday, which could seriously dent the Roman sides hopes of claiming third place and the remaining Champions League spot. In an entertaining match, Lazio defender Modibo Diakite gave Novara the lead shortly after the half hour when he turned Andrea Mazzaranis shot into his own goal. But Antonio Candreva levelled moments later. However, Giuseppe Mascara sealed the victory with a free kick 11 minutes from time. Lazio forward Libor Kozak had earlier had a goal ruled out for offside. Lazio remains third on 55 points, but Udinese can draw level if it beats Inter Milan later. Novara is eight points off safety, with four games remaining. The 33rd round of fixtures was postponed following the death of Piermario Morosini on April 14. Morosini -- on loan from Udinese -- collapsed and died after suffering cardiac arrest during Livornos match at Pescara in Serie B. Lazio could have taken the lead in the opening minute when Kozak put a good ball into the area for Candreva but Novara goalkeeper Alberto Fontana reacted well to come out and clear the danger. The Roman side had another good opportunity 10 minutes later when Candreva mishit a cross from Javier Garrido and the ball fell to Kozak, but the Czech forward couldnt get a cross past Novara defender Massimo Paci. Novara had its first opportunity when Michel Morganella unleashed a fierce effort which Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti did well to tip over the crossbar. Marchetti did even better a few minutes later to punch clear Andrea Lisuzzos well-aimed free kick. Lazio made things difficult for itself in the 35th minute when Diakite deflected Mazzaranis effort into his own net, leaving Marchetti grounded. However, Lazio was immediately back on level terms when Stefano Mauris effort from just outside the area was saved by Fontana but the ball rebounded to Candreva, who headed home from close range. And the visitors should have taken the lead moments later when Tommaso Rocchi released Kozak one on one with Fontana, but the Czech striker stumbled as he was about to let fly. The action was immediately down the other end as Simone Pesce raced downfield before picking out Takayuki Morimoto, whose quick shot was saved by Marchetti. Novara again went close when Andrea Caracciolo mishit his shot and Marco Rigoni headed it closer to goal but it flew narrowly over the bar. However, it was Lazio that had the best chance to take a halftime lead in stoppage time, as Stefano Mauri picked out Lorik Cana completely alone in front of goal but the Albanian headed wide of the left upright. Novara besieged Lazios goal in the second half but, although the Roman side at times looked to be struggling, the home side rarely had a sight of goal. Lazio slowly got back into the game and thought it had taken the lead in the 65th minute when a thunderbolt of a strike by Mauri was parried out to Kozak, who fired home, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Novara went close seconds later as Rigoni forced Marchetti into a great save, low to his right. The home side restored its lead when substitute Matuzalem, who had come on seconds earlier, tripped Filippo Porcari on the edge of the area. Mascara stepped up and curled a free kick into the top right corner. Lazio could have levelled five minutes later but Fontana pulled off a stunning save to deny Antonio Rozzi, who had come on for Candreva seconds earlier. Fontana again did well in stoppage time to keep out Cristian Ledesmas free kick which had been deflected by Andre Dias. Cheap NFL Jerseys From China . In some cases, the progression is natural and seemingly inevitable - young stars evolving into a more prominent role with more ice time, more time on the power play and better linemates. However, there are also times when players emerge with such an unlikely track record or and up-and-down career that makes the breakthrough season particularly surprising. NFL Jerseys China . The Padres right-hander allowed Clint Barmes first career grand slam in a nine-run fourth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat San Diego 11-5 on Sunday, ending the Padres six-game winning streak. Pitching in Pittsburgh for the first time since being released last October after going 13-27 in four seasons with the Pirates, Ohlendorf was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- on five hits in three-plus inning while walking three and striking out one. "I was looking forward to pitching here," Ohlendorf said. "The first three innings were going well then in the fourth inning I didnt make very good pitches and they took advantage of that." Neil Walker went 5 for 5 with a homer and double for Pittsburgh. The Padres had won 11 in a row at Pittsburgh dating to 2009. Andrew McCutchen and Michael McKenry each drove in two runs during the big inning against Ohlendrorf (4-3) and Cory Burns. Barmes, a 10-year veteran, has 88 career home runs. Walker had the third five-hit game of his career and second this season, the other coming July 8 against San Francisco. However, Walker was much happier for Barmes, who has struggled offensively all season after signing a $10.5 million, two-year contract in the off-season as a free agent. He is hitting just .217 after going 2 for 5. "But hes one of the best teammates Ive ever had," Walker said. "Hes helped me a lot and he has helped this team a lot by playing great defence. It was good to see him come up with the big hit." Barmes hadnt committed in an error in 34 straight games, though, until making two in the first four innings before redeeming himself with the grand slam. "The grand slam is the worst result possible in that situation," San Diego manager Bud Black said. "Youre still leading 5-2 and the inning is still manageable until that point." The Pirates sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth inning. McKenry drew a bases-loaded walk from Ohlendorf just before Barmes slam and then singled in the final run of the inning. "They ambushed us there in the fourth inning and we just couldnt make the pitches along the way to stem the tide," Black said. "If youve been around the game long enough, youll run into those innings where everything they do works, everything you do dooesnt and you cant stop the momentum.dddddddddddd Youve just got to take it." Logan Forsythe and Jesus Guzman had two hits each for the Padres and Chris Denorfia led off the game with his fourth home run. Pittsburgh stopped a three-game skid. On Friday night, San Diego rallied from six runs down for a 9-8 victory over the Pirates. McCutchen, who leads the major leagues with a .362 batting average, ended a string of 11 hitless at-bats with a double in the fourth. He finished 2 for 6. Erik Bedard (7-12) made it through five shaky innings for the win, allowing five runs -- three earned -- and five hits with four walks and six strikeouts. The left-hander improved to 5-0 in his career against the Padres. Denorfias homer started a four-run inning. Guzman hit an RBI single and two more runs scored when Barmes, the shortstop, made a throwing error on a groundball by Cameron Maybin. Forsythe doubled with one in the second and scored when Chase Headley hit a tapper up the line that McKenry, the catcher, fielded and threw to first for the out. Forsythe raced home when no one covered home plate. Walker hit an RBI single in the second to pull the Pirates to 5-1 then moved in front 10-5 with the big fourth inning. The nine-run inning was Pittsburghs biggest since it also scored nine on July 20, 2010, against Milwaukee. Walker homered off Brad Boxberger to lead off the seventh.
