What are you waiting for?

The wave’s splash upon the beach as the sun sets into the ocean, the water turns from blue to red and yellow from the suns disappearing rays. Lights from the pier flicker in the slow approaching darkness. A man stands at the end of it with a bottle in one hand a picture of a girl in the other. There is no message, no note only the faded crinkled edged picture. He wants to let go, let it join the sea of lost loves. With one final look he puts the picture in the old bottle delectically and secures the cork. With tears he arches his hand back and lets a mourning cry so the bottle flies from his hand splashing into the faint red and yellow water. Calmly the bottle floats as the waves gently carrying it out to sea as the man walks on into the night.

The bottle continues on and is discovered by a mermaid who uncorks the bottle and stares at the picture. A precious tear escapes her eyes, for she will never have the love the man once had, nor will her tear help the man, for his life is already gone. The mermaid recorks the bottle and lets it drift it on as she swims to the depths singing her mournful tune with the whales.

The bottle continues on and is discovered by fisherman who plucks it from the waves thinking it could be of value. Uncorking it he stares at the picture and cries the girl bear resemblance to the wife he once had, cancer took her from him and now he retreats to the sea for its solitude is his hearts refuge. Recorking the bottle the fisherman throws it back into the water and sails on.

A man drifts in the ocean his plane has crashed in the open sea as the bottle finds its way to him. Uncorking it the man begins to cry as the girl in the picture reminds him of his daughter that he rarely sees because of a rough divorce, the wife took the house, and most of the money but worst of all his baby girl. He had been flying back to the states for a rare visit that has now been cut short. The bottle gives the man hope as he recorks it and lets it continue on.

The bottle has traveled long and far and has now taken rest upon a beach on the opposite shore of where it started from. A woman is walking upon that beach, in one hand a bottle in the other a picture. There is no message, no note only the faded crinkled edged picture. The girl spies the bottle glinting in the rising morning sun and walks over to it. Lifting it she brushes the sand way and stands in shock as awe as she cries, the picture is familiar same face, same eyes, same smile that has so long been not shown.  Uncorking the bottle she stands the dilemena in her hands, she could call him but, she had came to let go, to let it join the sea of lost loves. Deciding she puts both pictures in the bottle, and walks over to the pier and up to the end. Arching her hand back she lets out a mournful cry as the bottle flies from her hand and hits the red and yellow waves. The bottle drifts back out into the ocean, back to a sea of lost loves, to a new course. The woman walks of the pier into a waking city.

Years later a man and women are dredging the ocean looking for valuables, pulling up a fool net they haul it onto their boat as a bottle slips out. The man picks it up inside there are two pictures once whole now torn into separate pieces. The man calls out to his wife, look I found another one. The woman answers, darn not the kind of treasure were looking for but a treasure nonetheless, a treasure of love long lost.
