Thursdays Child's blog: "So Long, Sony"

HELP!! My Ipod just leapt from my pocket into the toilet!!  That's the second one to take the fatal plunge!! WHY?? WHY do they leave me?? (and why the drowning option?  It’s had a few scrapes on the floor in the past and sustained only minor damage to the outer casing but that was only cosmetic)   Oh, I’ve had some near misses,let me tell you, mostly when I’ve been washing my car.  Wheeeeeee!! Check me out!! The bungee jumping Ipod!! There it goes, dangling millimetres from a bucket of water. THAT kind of recklessness should have been nipped in the bud before it led to…....Well, permanent water damage but....It always bounced back. Just not this time. The u-bend of the toilet almost became a water slide. Until I got my hand down it to grab it in time. And thus the resuscitation process began…

Music makes household chores so much less tedious, don’t you think?  So much the better with a mini orchestra playing in your ears.  Now, I just won’t be able to summon up the enthusiasm to pick up the hoover. Or the dishcloth when I’m washing the dishes (All manual labour-I AM the dishwasher) or the feather duster…..Whistle while you work? Not now I can’t. A stereo is fine of course but it’s not quite the same as the portable and lightweight device that sits conveniently in your ear.  I would routinely brush my teeth to a three minute track and sometimes wander, absent mindedly, into the toilet with It. Yes, THAT was the fate of the previous one which survived all of three weeks . I know, a pattern is starting to emerge. 

I will just have to get a new one some time but for now, music on my phone will have to suffice....But with extreme caution. I know the most tried and tested rescue method is to bury it in rice but I wasn't able to open the back completely in time.   It would not budge and I didn't want to force it in case I broke it. (Oh, the irony) That may have worked had I applied that action immediately but I left it too long. The corrosion has set in and now all I have left is an empty shell.  No power.......Nothing. I tried recharging it but there was no pulse. This time it’s terminal. RIP my three year old old Sony. I did all I could.
