Elf's blog: "Slacking at work"

created on 09/22/2006  |  http://fubar.com/slacking-at-work/b5350

Speaking of names...

I just got an email from a company called Wayne Enterprises. I almost want to write back and ask if I can set up a meeting with Bruce. Sorry....I can't help it. I'm awful.

Funny names....

Okay....today is the second time I've seen this name. They're a customer and I have to be polite but damn...look at the name and say it out loud. Jackie Imhof I kid you not.

Frustration

I really am going to go and beat my head against the wall. Argh.

Drinks and such...

I'm not even going to expound on the horrors of work at the moment. If I get on a rant I might not stop. So I've been entertaining myself (after the last deluge of orders) with perusing absinthe's that are available online. I've never tried it but I've had it reccomended to me by several people. I'd certainly like to give it a try but ther are quite a few varieties available and most (except for tiny little taste sets) are expensive, especially when I have no clue what would be good to start with. If there's any of you who are familair with absinthe do you have a reccomendation on a particular type? I'd like to try a traditional type so that I can experience the full effect. I've found several online that seem to be good to try but I'm still curious as to other people's opinions. Of course, I also wouldn't say no to a gift of absinthe showing up at my work. *grin* If you feel that generous I'd be happy to give you my work address. But again, if you have some reccomendations I'd love to hear them. This seemed like a good way to try it and see if I even like it: Tiny Set But I'm not sure. From what I understand I should look for something with a high or even mazimum wormwood content for a more traditional experience. And there are quite a few of those. Reality and Alandia Strong68 Any suggestions or offers to make a gift of some?

Wow...

Funny how I'd grown used to seeing that someone had a crush on me. It's not there today and I feel...strangely empty. Weird. Edit 4:14 PM: Someone loves me again! *laughs* Thank you to the person who did that. :)

Weekend in review...

Would you believe that I didn't have a drop of alcohol this whole weekend? Actually it's been two weeks since I last had a drink. I'm not sure if I'm proud of myself or if I'm ready to go out and get smashed on B&B. The weekend was quiet. Got new headlights for my car so I can stop blinding people with my high beams at night. (my low beams went out about 3 years ago and I've been lazy abou replacing them) Relaxed at home. Went grocery shopping. Played WoW for 12 hours on Saturday. Yep, that's right....12 hours. I was logged on from 4pm on Saturday afternoon till 4am on Sunday morning. There was a good reason for that. The people that originally pressured me into playing decided to switch servers. I didn't really feel like paying to transfer my poor little lvl 17 character so I made a new one on the server they dragged me to. Same race, different class. So now I have an Alliance character on Laughing Moon (the new one) and Haoramush (the old one) and a Horde character on Silvermoon. Watch, I'll be back online tonight. Damn addictions.

More songs and memories

More songs and memories for today… Goo Goo Dolls – Iris This makes me think of both my first year of college and my first year in CA. When I hear this song though I see both my dorm room at Tech, the one I had to myself and the set of Terminator the Musical. It even brings back the smells and little things I forget otherwise. That year was a good one for me, even if I was on academic probation after it. Nirvana – Nevermind I remember days in band where we’d have a substitute and we’d all just hang around in groups and chat. I remember a bunch of us talking about this song while watching the guys play hacky sack. Ah, the joys of high school. Pearl Jam – Jeremy Again, this brings to mind another Trigun AMV. I’m such a geek. A-Ha – Take On Me This one is associated with riding with Zach and friends in the Malk-Mobile singing at the top of our lungs. The only problem was that the only part that most of them knew was the high pitched note “two”. So you heard a lot of sort-of singing and then 4 guys and a girl belting out that note while driving down Contra Costa. And I think that’s it for today. I know…not that many for a day of pretty good music. Ah well.

Good wishes

Hey guys....any extra good thoughts you have today I could use for my Uncle Rich. He had a heart attack and is having a stent put in as I type. Thanks. :)

Songs and memories

Ever find that certain songs not only remind you of someone but often times they simply remind you of a certain moment in your past? Every day I hear songs that bring back particular memories. I think I’ll start recording all the ones I hear today. Crash Test Dummies – Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm I’m reminded of my first year of college. Specifically watching Monty Python: And Now For Something Completely Different and hanging out with Patrick (from Tech). Santana and Rob Thomas – Smooth This one reminds me of sitting at the Southwest gate at the airport in CA with my headphones on and just a groovin’ away early one morning. Prince – Seven I recall very clearly driving down Contra Costa with my camera bag next to me singing this song with the windows rolled down. Marc Cohen – Walkin’ in Memphis This song reminds me of rainy days back when I was driving or riding with my mom in high school in TN. It never seemed to fail that if it was raining and I was in the car I’d hear this song. The strip of road that it brings to mind was the main road that Nana and Papaw used to live off of. I remember the puddles on the side of the road when I hear this song. Muddy puddles in the potholes in the asphalt. Los Del Rio – Macarena This one is firmly attached to a night at Waffle House with Jeremy, Patrick and Daniel. We were playing the jukebox and this one came up and we danced. Or at least, Patrick and Daniel did. Later that night we fled from that Waffle House before a drunk Marine (so we thought) could attack us with a butter knife over a disagreement about Meatloaf. Technotronic – Pump Up The Jam I can remember singing and dancing to this with Amber when I’d spend the night over at her house and we’d scare ourselves by reading Helter Skelter. For some reason I can also remember us working on our paper sarcophagus for Social Studies. We used me as the outline. I admit, ours look pretty awesome. Live – Lightning Crashes I think I will always associate this with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Don’t ask why. :p Bryan Adams, Sting, Rod Stewart – All For Love Besides bring to mind the movie Three Musketeers I remember the Bryan Adams concert where he performed this. That and how I always wanted to find two other people to sing this with me sometime. Snow – Informer I actually have this song in my car at the moment. But I remember running laps around the baseball field back in the 6th grade and this song was either playing or we were talking about it. Still, this is the image that comes to mind with this song. The great thing was that the only part of the song that anyone knew was “Informer”. J Chumbawamba – Tubthumping Ah…I remember this one while driving in the wee hours of the morning on school nights with Jeremy, Patrick and Daniel in Dan’s little Geo Metro as we hunted for strange places and tried to forget that we had class at 8 in the morning. Elton John – Circle of Life I remember two things with this song. I remember cleaning the house with my brother and best friend Rebecca before we all went to see the Lion King for the first time in the theater and I remember mowing my Nana and Papaw’s yard with the riding mower and singing this song at the top of my lungs. Kid Rock – Cowboy Thanks to a well done AMV I will forever associate this song with Trigun. LOL. Figures. And that was it for today on the 90’s station.

Pretty!

I wish I could afford this.... http://nashville.craigslist.org/clt/293978393.html
