Songs and memories

Ever find that certain songs not only remind you of someone but often times they simply remind you of a certain moment in your past? Every day I hear songs that bring back particular memories. I think I’ll start recording all the ones I hear today. Crash Test Dummies – Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm I’m reminded of my first year of college. Specifically watching Monty Python: And Now For Something Completely Different and hanging out with Patrick (from Tech). Santana and Rob Thomas – Smooth This one reminds me of sitting at the Southwest gate at the airport in CA with my headphones on and just a groovin’ away early one morning. Prince – Seven I recall very clearly driving down Contra Costa with my camera bag next to me singing this song with the windows rolled down. Marc Cohen – Walkin’ in Memphis This song reminds me of rainy days back when I was driving or riding with my mom in high school in TN. It never seemed to fail that if it was raining and I was in the car I’d hear this song. The strip of road that it brings to mind was the main road that Nana and Papaw used to live off of. I remember the puddles on the side of the road when I hear this song. Muddy puddles in the potholes in the asphalt. Los Del Rio – Macarena This one is firmly attached to a night at Waffle House with Jeremy, Patrick and Daniel. We were playing the jukebox and this one came up and we danced. Or at least, Patrick and Daniel did. Later that night we fled from that Waffle House before a drunk Marine (so we thought) could attack us with a butter knife over a disagreement about Meatloaf. Technotronic – Pump Up The Jam I can remember singing and dancing to this with Amber when I’d spend the night over at her house and we’d scare ourselves by reading Helter Skelter. For some reason I can also remember us working on our paper sarcophagus for Social Studies. We used me as the outline. I admit, ours look pretty awesome. Live – Lightning Crashes I think I will always associate this with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Don’t ask why. :p Bryan Adams, Sting, Rod Stewart – All For Love Besides bring to mind the movie Three Musketeers I remember the Bryan Adams concert where he performed this. That and how I always wanted to find two other people to sing this with me sometime. Snow – Informer I actually have this song in my car at the moment. But I remember running laps around the baseball field back in the 6th grade and this song was either playing or we were talking about it. Still, this is the image that comes to mind with this song. The great thing was that the only part of the song that anyone knew was “Informer”. J Chumbawamba – Tubthumping Ah…I remember this one while driving in the wee hours of the morning on school nights with Jeremy, Patrick and Daniel in Dan’s little Geo Metro as we hunted for strange places and tried to forget that we had class at 8 in the morning. Elton John – Circle of Life I remember two things with this song. I remember cleaning the house with my brother and best friend Rebecca before we all went to see the Lion King for the first time in the theater and I remember mowing my Nana and Papaw’s yard with the riding mower and singing this song at the top of my lungs. Kid Rock – Cowboy Thanks to a well done AMV I will forever associate this song with Trigun. LOL. Figures. And that was it for today on the 90’s station.
