Shattered Fragments of Time
With a tinkle like the breaking of glass
I hear the warm depth of your laughter
I spin around and around, my hands groping the empty air
but I cannot see the smile on your face.
The laughter fades slowly away
I feel the gentleness of your fingers upon my arm
and I reach for your hand, but it is not there.
Nor are your lips when I turn to kiss you
Or your warmth when my arms reach out to hold you.
Fingers I cannot see hold my heart firm
Like shattered fragments out of time
parts of you are with me always
I try so hard to hold them close to me
so that you will not go away and leave me again
But I cannot
In my heart, in my soul I watch helplessly
as you leave me a hundred times each day
For all my strength, my love, I cannot stop you
Almost with surprise I realise I am crying again
The teardrop falls forever to the dry, dusty ground
But my eyes do not follow it to final impact, because
already my heart is reaching for the next fragment of you
Lifting me high for just the briefest of seconds
before once again it has faded like early morning mist
And I fall
