It was in the papers that school are using software that bans access to any controversial topics, PLUS any reference to Wicca, Paganism, mythology and the like. Students are complaining that they are thus restricted in their studies for important debates such as the abortion issue, rights of freedom of religion and other such facts due to this software that prohibits anything that doesn't go with traditional (sic) conservative Christian morals. These issues are in fact encouraged to be debated by students as part of the curriculum in order to promote learning and freedom of opinion. If the information to dissenting opinions is restricted, how will this benefit anyone? I'm pretty sure that this nation was founded on the principle that people could have their own opinion.
So.............
Should schools continue with this guided but heavily restricted regiment of learning resources?
**OR**
Should students be allowed to access resources appropriate for their age group (high school, for instance...we're not talking porn or anything) that would allow dissenting views to the supposedly mainstream point of view? |
