but it's a great song.

1-2-8 by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

They played something
They made something
Brand new a baby blue
machine
Brass tacks, duct tape
For the great escape
Packed in there
like sardines
Back and forth
East, south, west, north
Shred the atlas
burn the map
Often lost and paths
Wake me up I need a nap
They did
something
Which meant something
And that got them some attention
Eyes
wide
A roller coaster ride
Great pride in this invention
I think
they're selling Snake oil
At the dog and pony show
In the garden
gee
Would you pardon me
And by the way how does it grow
The
explanation's unexplainable
Holding onto something
Once dreamt
unattainable
The course was never charted
So don't look into the
books
The secret's not the recipe
It's got to be the cooks
They made
something
They played something
Blood, sweat, and elbow grease
If you
can't stand the heat in the kitchen
Get out it will increase
Last train
to where?
Hey get out of here
Nothing's measured and nothing's
weighed
A dash of honesty in the recipe
That's the first mistake you've
made
1, 2 what's in the stew
3, 4 no one's really sure
5, 6 what's in the mix
7, 8 this stuff tastes
Bastards on Parade - Dropkick Murhpys I've lost all the time that I have in this world I spent it unwisely. Unwisely you see And I can't get it back And I can't move forward I'm broken and I'm empty It's over for me If I could undo all the wrongs that I've caused Fall to my knees pray for swiftness and just For I'm just a fool A fool driven to dust And the world ain't gonna change for me So give me one more chance to prove these problems and frustrations aren't just manifest in memories we're destined to repeat A second chance to prove I know right from wrong I swear I'll do things different but can't promise to be strong [Chorus:] So come on all you losers, you bastards and cheats Vagrants and barflies down on the streets Follow this path to salvation vindication awaits We're marching on East Broadway streets tonight If you can look into this old face and try to see the young man I swear I once was pretty, not the monster you now see But I squandered all my chances Lost my faith and took for granted This life and precious one chance the whirlwind I'll reap If I could undo all the wrongs that I've caused Fall to my knees pray for swiftness and just For I'm just a fool A fool driven to dust And the world ain't gonna change for me [Chorus x3]

For someone special

Forever - Dropkick Murphys All of my dreams seem to fall by the side like a discarded thought or the day's fading light but I know that if I could just see you tonight forever at times we may fall, like we all tend to do but I'll reach out and find that I've run into you your strength is the power that carried me through forever Your kindness for weakness I never mistook I worried you often, yet you understood that life is so fleeting, these troubles won't last forever inspired me truly you did from the start to not be afraid and to follow my heart there's a piece of you with me they can't tear apart forever Forever I'll find you, forever we'll be Forever your power and strength stays with me
Wrong Company - Flogging Molly Well I fell into prison about a quarter till three Where I found in my cell a glass waiting for me So I filled what was empty and I pulled up a stool But he stood in the corner, the old devil wouldn't move He said, "You drink when you're lonely." No I drink when I want! He said, "You'll never be sober." Sure. Why would I want that? I only drink to be merry but unfortunately I'm in the wrong prison cell and the wrong company

Great pair...

So here we have to songs that really have to be played together and are probably in my Top 25 of all time. Between the 2 it's almost ten minutes worth of music. Rare to have meaningful songs that long these days, but as frontman Tom Kalnoky said, "We're going to keep doing what we're doing, whether or not a single record is sold." A Moment of Silence/A Moment of Violence - Streetlight Manifesto a moment of silence please for those who never get the chance they show up to the party but they're never asked to dance the losers the liars the bastards the thieves the cynicists, the pessimists and those that don't believe in nothing i never met a loser that i didn't see eye to eye with, i declare i stare into your eyes but you look right past me into the air what's it like to stand in your shoes? to have never felt the belt of somebody's abuse? i take the bottle and i tip it to all my heroes that have passed alas, you have left us but your stories they will last uninspired by the recruiting call independent we stand independent we fall so tell me: how long do you think you can go before you lose it all? before they call you bluff and watch you fall? i don't know but i'd like to think i had control at some point but i let it go and lost my soul sit tight but the revolution's years away i'm losing faith and i'm running low on things to say so i guess i have no choice but to regurgitate the tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite oh! to have died that night i realized it wouldn't last! our days were numbered and the reaper tipped the hourglass the final mayday of our sinking ship had come and passed oh! to the west, you don't know what it is you're running from and everybody's laughing loud your last chance to make your mother and father proud oh, oh, oh... a moment of silence please for those who never get the chance they show up to the party but they're never asked to dance the losers the liars the bastards the thieves the cynicists, the pessimists and those that don't believe in nothing they said "a pox upon your house upon your family and everyone you ever knew and everyone you'll ever meet" i bet they think we wish we joined when we could but we do what we want we don't do what we should now everybody's laughing because they're thinking they in on something i don't get don't forget i connect and i read every word you said like a child who believes he was wronged if you hate me so much then stop singing my songs so tell me: how long do you think you can go before you lose it all? before they call you bluff and watch you fall? i don't know but i'd like to think i had control at some point but i let it go and lost my soul sit tight but the revolution's years away i'm losing faith and i'm running low on things to say so i guess i have no choice but to regurgitate the tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite oh! to have died that night i realized it wouldn't last! our days were numbered and the reaper tipped the hourglass the final mayday of our sinking ship had come and passed oh! to the west, you don't know what it is you're running from and everybody's laughing loud your last chance to make your mother and father proud oh, oh, oh... i never did lose a battle but i'm feeling further from the end of war deplore ignored and rarely ever self assured why does it seem the ones who have everything have nothing inside? have nothing inside i don't sleep anymore i gave it up because what we do is not enough and now they're calling out our bluffs have you done a single thing for someone else? or do you take take take until your belly is stuffed? how long do you think you can go before you lose it all? before they call you bluff and watch you fall? i don't know but i'd like to think i had control at some point but i let it go and lost my soul sit tight but the revolution's years away i'm losing faith and i'm running low on things to say so i guess i have no choice but to regurgitate the tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite oh! to have died that night i realized it wouldn't last! our days were numbered and the reaper tipped the hourglass the final mayday of our sinking ship had come at last oh! to the west, you don't know what it is you're running from and everybody's laughing loud your last chance to make your mother and father proud
Somewhere in the Between - Streetlight Manifesto You were gone when we found you You were practically surrounded, you were trapped But the opposition stalled, their blood ran cold When they saw the look of love in your eyes Maybe the times we had, they weren't that bad And everything else was part of the plan We sang: "I don't know where we go from here" This is the alpha, omega, beginning and the end And we all just idolize the dead So you were born, and that was a good day Someday you'll die, and that is a shame But somewhere in the between was a life of which we all dream And nothing and no one will ever take that away You had a love and that love had you And nothing mattered, you were fine And some will complain, they're just bitter, what a shame They know that loving and losing is better than nothing at all Maybe the times we had, they weren't that bad And everything else was part of our path We sang: "I don't know where we go from here" This is the anthem, the slogan, the summary of events And we all just idealize the past ANd someday soon my friends, this ride will come to an end But we can't just get in line again

For a friend...

Guarded by Monkeys - Cracker You are so beautiful You should be hid deep in the jungle On some forgotten island I heard about you I got your PGP key I write you letters every day CHORUS: You are so beautiful You should be guarded by monkeys You are so beautiful REPEAT CHORUS I have invented 51 daylights This does not seem to impress you You are so beautiful Sublime and classified I can't stop thinking about you REPEAT CHORUS x2 - break - REPEAT CHORUS You are so beautiful You should be hid deep in the jungle You are so beautiful REPEAT CHORUS x2 You are so beautiful You are so beautiful
Actually it's a tale of 2 songs describing 2 relationships (an old and a new) by one band off of the same album. Let it be known that Rock and Roll is not dead and that Mike Ness is a master wordsmith. Of course if you're not into him or Social D that's not really any of my concern now is it? The Old 'Ball and Chain' by Social Distortion Well it's been ten years and a thousand tears And look at the mess I'm in A broken nose and a broken heart An empty bottle of gin Well I sit and I pray In my broken down Chevrolet While I'm singin' to myself There's got to be another way Take away, take away Take away this ball and chain Well I'm lonely and I'm tired And I can't take any more pain Take away, take away Never to return again Take away, take away, take away Take away this ball and chain Well I've searched and I've searched To find the perfect life A brand new car and a brand new suit I even got me a little wife But wherever I have gone I was sure to find myself there You can run all your life But not go anywhere Take away, take away Take away this ball and chain Well I'm sick and I'm tired And I can't take any more pain Take away, take away Never to return again Take away, take away, take away Take away this ball and chain Well I'll pass the bar on the way To my dingy hotel room I spent all my money I've been drinkin' since half past noon I'll wake there in the mornin' Or maybe in the county jail Times are hard, getting harder I'm born to lose and destined to fail Take away, take away Take away this ball and chain Well I'm lonely and I'm tired And I can't take any more pain Take away, take away Never to return again Take away, take away, take away Take away this ball and chain The New 'Let It Be Me' by Social Distortion I've been in love, but now I'm waiting Don't ever want to worry about a thing I sit at home and I wonder Will I rise or will I go under Chorus: Let it be me-if you're lonely Let it be me-your one and only Let it be me-to satify you Let it be me-if your feelin' blue I've seen you around but you don't know me I've watched your life but can't always see I'll try and I'll try girl to love you And when we die you will have loved too Repeat Chorus You know your friends talk bad about me Your folks say it's not suppose to be You know girl your life is going by fast Try to make it last Repeat Chorus
These words have helped define me for a long time. Someone has challenged them of late and I'm OK with that, but that doesn't mean they can't help somebody else through the tough times. 'Rude and Reckless' by The Slackers I asked my father for some advice, He answered quickly, he didn't think twice. He said a thinkin' man don't do too much, Know what you're doing and do as you must. And learn to be rude and reckless, Don't make a fuss. You have to be rude and reckless, Do as you must. You have to be hard and callous In your heart and your hands. Learn to be rude and reckless, It'd make you a man. I said now Papa, I'm just a boy. I want to get groovy, I want to bring joy. He said that's well and good for the son of a richer man, But that ain't you now sonny, please understand. You have to be rude and reckless, It'd make you a man. You have to be rude and reckless, Don't misunderstand. Women will try to run you, And when they're done You'll be a nice young man, Not too much fun. You have to be hard and callous, You have to be strong. You have to rude and reckless, Don't be all wrong. You have to be a no hesitation, Don't think too much. 'Cause a good love is sayin' Of a hand that leave a touch. You have to be... I said now Papa, I'm just a boy. I want to get groovy, yeah, I want to bring joy. He said that's well and good for the son of a richer man, But that ain't you now sonny, please, please understand. You have to be rude and reckless, It's part of the plan. You have to be rude and reckless, Do right by your fellow man. There should be no political correctness, You have to drive fast. You have to be strong, not wrong, You have to be strong.
