I do know that this country needs change. You may not know it but each and everyday "We the People" lose more and more of the fundamental freedoms that are supposedly ours according to the constitution under which this country was founded.

Resident seeks leadership change
Dear Editor:
If there ever was a time in the history of our mid-term elections process that the voters of this nation must exercise their right to vote it is Nov. 7. For the sake of our democracy we must bring our government back to a system of government that will give us the needed checks and balances. We need to have Congressional oversight of investigations, which have been lacking for the past six years with the present "puppet" Republican Congress.
The rationale that was used to unilaterally invade a sovereign country, the disappearance of billions of our tax dollars in Iraq, the disregard of acts of Congress by the use of over 800 "signing statements, the many foreign policy blunders, the use of known flawed intelligence that lead us into a war, total lack of a plan for Iraq, the administration knowingly giving authorization for torture, the Taliban allowed to make a comeback in Afghanistan, possible fraud in the 2000, 2002 and 2004 elections, the President calling our Constitution, "just a d-mn piece of paper" - the same 'piece of paper' that he took the oath to uphold, are just the short list of things that need Congressional investigation.
In 2000 George W. Bush ran for president saying that "it's time to restore honor and dignity to the White House. People believed him. GWB has proceeded to set new records for lying to the American people and has made the United States the most despised and disrespected country in the world.
To add to the administration's charade, GWB has proclaimed Oct. 15 through Oct. 21 as National Character Counts Week. According to GWB it is intended to "renew our commitment to instilling values in our young people and to encouraging all Americans to remember the importance of good character. As individuals, we all have an obligation to help our children become responsible citizens...By demonstrating values such as integrity, courage, honesty, and patriotism. ...."
Unfortunately, our children only see lying, corruption, and failed character from GWB and his Administration.
I am an Independent that will be voting Democrat. I have confidence that Harold Ford Jr. will remember "we the people" and represent the values of Tennessee. Whether you are Republican, Democrat, or an Independent, haven't you had enough? Whether you are Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Jewish, or Evangelical, has this administration demonstrated that they embrace the same morals and values you want your children taught? Please Blount County, vote Democrat in 2006. If the Democrats were to fail to bring change and respectability within the next two to four years -- then vote them out, but give freedom a chance! Vote change in 2006.
