i'm happy to tell u that there is very little in this world i believe in. Listening to people who comment on political, social, and cultural issues, i notice that most reflect an underlying belief that somehow things were better once and that with just a little effort we could set them right again. They're looking for solutions, and rooting for particular results, and i think that necessarily limits the tone and substance of what they say. Don' get me wrong, they're talented and funny people. i think people, in general, usually are anyway, even if they don't realize it, but they're nothing more then cheerleaders attached to a specific, wished-for outcome.
i don't feel so confined. i frankly don't give a fvck how it turns out in this country-or anywhere else for that matter. i think the human game was up long time ago, when the high priests and the traders took over, and now we are just playing out the string. and that is, precisely what i find so amusing: the slow circling of the drain of a once promising species, and the sappy, ever more desperate belief in this country that there is actually some sort of "american dream" which has merely been misplaced.
The decay and disintegration of this culture is astonishingly amusing if u are emotionally detached from it. i have always viewed it from a safe distance, knowing i don't belong; it doesn't include me, and it never has. no matter how u care to define it, i do not identify with the local group. i may have the same views as u, but i do not identify with u. Planet, species, nation, state religion, party, union, club association, neighborhood improvement committee. i have no interest in any of it. i am an artist. first and foremost and til the day i die. my job is to make u see things, feel things, look at things, in a way u may have never before. i will not join u, but i will listen to u, and i will respect u. we may even think the same, but again, i am not u. i love and treasure individuals as i meet them. if i have talked to u, chances are that i do truly treasure u for being u.
don't confuse me with those that cling to hope. i enjoy showing how things are, not how things "ought to be." i certainly have no interest in fixing them. please don't hold me to thinking there is a solution, i would only create a bigger problem. my motto: "fvck hope."
lest u wonder, i am a joyful individual in a wonderful relationship that i don't foresee ever letting go. things are turning out better then i ever dreamed, and it continues to expand. i am a personal optimist but a skeptic in all else. what may sound to some like anger is really nothing more then sympathetic contempt. i view my species with a combination of wonder and pity, mixed with a dash of hate. i root for its destruction. and please don't confuse my point of view with cynicism. the cynics are the ones that tell u everything is going to be all right.
on a final note, if u all do manage to straighten things out and get it right, i still don't want to be included. i apologize if i have disappointed any of u with this. i am me. i am an individual. i am an artist. and that my friends, is that.
