YAROSLAVL, Russia - Emotions were running high Thursday as Canadas top junior hockey players beat Russia 3-2 in the first game of the Canada-Russia Challenge. Ray Rice Womens Jersey . But Canadian coach Steve Spott wasnt happy with the undisciplined play his team, adding its something that will have to be worked on prior to Game 2 of the series Friday. "Were going to have to address our discipline," Spott said. "This group is real physical. The challenge for us is going to be to continue to play physical but not cross a line where its going to cost us penalties. "Its a lesson learned. Thankfully it didnt hurt us." Canadas Dougie Hamilton scored the game winner on a power play for Canada in the second period to kick off the four-game series. Hamilton, a draft pick of the Boston Bruins, scored late in the second period to give Canada a 3-1 lead. Sean Monahan and Scott Harrington had the other goals for Canada, while Anton Slepyshev and Nail Yakupov replied for Russia. Yakupov, who was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in June, scored on a power play late in the third to bring Russia to within one. "We turned over some pucks that allowed them to use their speed and their skill so well address that tonight," Spott said. After Friday, the series shifts to Halifax for games on Monday and Tuesday. The series is being played as a tribute to Kontinental Hockey League team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The club was involved in a horrific plane crash last September that killed 44 players and coaches. "Its been an emotional time for us," said Spott. Former NHL defenceman Brad McCrimmon, who was coaching Yaroslavl at the time of the accident, was killed in the crash. His father, Byron McCrimmon, is with the Canadian team at the tournament. "Byron joined us in Toronto and has been part of our team since weve got to Yaroslavl," Spott said. "Our players have had a chance to bond with him and he probably has to be one of the strongest men Ive ever met. "With the ceremony yesterday and the game tonight hes a pillar of strength and I think an inspiration for all of us." The tournament is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series. "I think weve tried to create the culture here of 1972," Spott said, adding that Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Esposito, who played for Canada in the 72 series, was also on the road with the team to show support. "(Our players) understand now that this is not just an evaluation for (the world junior hockey championship in) December but theres a lot of national pride on hand here," Spott said. "I can tell you that the full house in this building fully expected a physical game and an emotional game and they definitely got what they were hoping for." Ray Rice Jersey Elite . Vottos RBI double off John Axford broke a scoreless tie in the ninth, and the Reds edged the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Wednesday. Torrey Smith Jersey Elite . How close? Maybe an inch. Mark Reynolds two-run single in the eighth inning backed a strong performance from Wei-Yin Chen and rallied the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. The Orioles had failed several times earlier in the game with runners in scoring position, but Reynolds was able to reach out and bloop a single just in front of centre fielder Denard Span to put the Orioles ahead. Beckham failed to make the British team, ending his chances to cap a successful career with an Olympic victory at home, so it will be up to the 38-year-old Manchester United veteran and the 20-year-old Brazilian sensation to try to create some hype about a competition which lacks the lustre of footballs top events.CALGARY -- Urijah Faber was not expected to headline injury-marred UFC 149 in Calgary, but he is vowing to give disappointed fans their moneys worth. Faber (26-5-0) will meet Renan Barao (30-1-0 with one no contest) for the interim bantamweight title as UFC comes to Alberta for the first time. The fight came about after champion Dominick Cruz was sidelined for the year with a knee injury. Then injuries to other fighters prompted a venue shift to the Saddledome from Las Vegas. "I dont feel pressure, because I know Im going to deliver," Faber said Thursday during a conference call. "Ive never had a dull fight in my life. Ive watched Barao. Baraos the type of fighter that will always have an exciting fight. Were going to go in there and try to think each other out from the get-go." Faber, a 33-year-old Isla Vista, Calif., native, will get his first UFC title shot on a card that has been completely overhauled. All of the originally-scheduled fights were scrapped because of injuries. Faber, whose nickname is the California Kid, was slated to meet Barao last month in Las Vegas, a site the American preferred. But looking back, he called the extra time to prepare "a breath of fresh air." While Faber has received most of the hype surrounding the fight, Barao, a 25-year-old Brazilian, enters the bout on a 29-fight unbeaten streak. Barao also vowed to put on a good performance for disgruntled fans. "I want to show them all that I have," said the Portuguese-speaking Barao through an interpreter. "I want to put on my best fight, and I want to leave there victorious." Fans have expressed their outrage at the revised match schedule, which will have six Canadians on the undercard. Following the changes to the event whhich quickly sold out, many fans -- a number of whom have spent thousands to travel to Calgary from Saskatchewan and other locales -- posted their tickets for sale on various websites. Vonta Leach Jersey. Others vented their frustrations on Twitter. UFC president Dana White said the injuries to the original combatants forced unprecedented challenges for his organization. "This is the craziest card of all time," said White. But he contended that no spectator will have cause for complaint by the time the show is over. "The people who got stung in this thing were a lot of scalpers," said White. "Thats who got stung. I can tell you this right now, if youre a UFC fan and you bought a ticket to Calgary, youre going to get exactly what youve paid for." He said the title fight has important future title implications while several hopefuls are vying for a shot to become champion. The revised card is also a testament to UFCs ability to deliver quality fights. "If this was a boxing card, this card would have been postponed," said White. "It would have been gone. We built another card. This is not just about putting a fight together, but the fighters coming up and taking these big fights." Tom Wright, the former Canadian Football League commissioner who serves as UFCs director of Canadian operations, said the homegrown talent on display will also add to the excitement. Among the Canadian fighters, relative newcomer James Head (8-2-0) of Mississauga, Ont., will take on veteran Brian Ebersole (50-14-1) of La Porte, Ind. Despite the fans questions about the revised cards quality, there is no doubt UFC will return to Calgary in the future. "I can assure you: Well be back to Calgary," said Wright. ' ' '
