hi everyone this is one of those if you care you care if you dont care you dont care blogs. but 3 weeks ago i had the joy of meeting a wonderful 12yr old that was a guest speaker at a meeting i ran. here is a little history about me so you understand why i had to run the meeting where the 12yr old was speaking.i am a member of the Kinsmen club of Preston which is a service club like the lions and kiwanis or Optimist. which is only found in Canada. last year in june i took on the role of Cystic Fibrosis service director for the 2006-2007 year. and my job was to help raise money and awareness of CF which May is CF month. so on January 23rd me and my kinette counterpart ran a CF Night which was a formal night and a catered meal and a guest speaker.it took me months just to plan for the night. and on that night we had our district 1 governor there with his wife as well as the CF directors from district 1 and the zone A CF reps as well and of course 12yr old Amber Shewfelt who has CF and her parents. and on that night we presented a check for $700 to CF and as well as collected $130 worth of fines which in tern we donated it to CF. CF Canada and Kin Canada has had a long relationship lasting 40yrs and counting. and during that time we have given CF over 30 million dollars for research and finding a cure. which we hope one day will happen. now back to Amber. She was diagnosed as a baby with CF and during that time she has gone through many tests and treatments and drugs as well so she can still lead a normal life. to hear her speak and for her to tell her story made all of us think about our own lives and how a 12yr old girl with CF can still have a cheerful attitude. and for her to try and live her life day by day knowing she may either live or die. we did have a good laugh when she talked about her and her younger sibling. but in the end i was ready to cry. yes i am a big suck when it comes to things like that. she is a wonderful role model to kids her age and really to us adults. we tend to complain and whine alot that we are sick wiht this or sick with that. but if you look at amber you dont see that in her. you see someone that is fighting it all the way and still finds time to volunteer with her parents and hang out with friends. nothing is stopping her. but stil is happy and cheerful. so after she spoke that night, it was a tough act to follow for me.cause i was speechless, and i really didnt know what to say. all i could say was WOW. but i am glad she spoke that night cause it opened up my eyes to what she is going through with CF and how she deals with it day in and day out. and i applaud her for that. and for showing me that no matter what happens in life to always keep a cheerful attitude. and to live life to teh fullest. me in my own life i have seen my grandmothers battle cancer. and have seen them lose that battle and so have many of you and some of you are going through that yourself wether it be cancer, cf, diabetes, and other diseases. we have to stay strong, cheerful and think about all teh good things. if not it will bring us down and really in the end make things worse. so really its something to think about. so to whoever reads this. i hope my rambling sounds okay lol. but i hope you take the time to think about the joys in life and to take things that come our way with a cheerful attitude and that tomorrow is always a new day. thanks everyone
