Insomnia is a symptom of a sleeping disorder characterized by persistent difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep despite the opportunity. It is typically followed by functional impairment while awake. Insomniacs have been known to complain about being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time. Both organic and non-organic insomnia constitute a sleep disorder.[1][2] TYPES OF INSOMNIA: Although there are several different degrees of insomnia, about three types of insomnia have been clearly identified: transient, acute, and chronic. Transient insomnia lasts from days to weeks. It can be caused by another disorder, by changes in the sleep environment, by the timing of sleep, or by stress. Its consequences - sleepiness and impaired psychomotor performance - are similar to those of sleep deprivation.[5] Acute insomnia is the inability to consistently sleep well for a period of between three weeks to six months.[6] Chronic insomnia lasts for years at a time. It can be caused by another disorder, or it can be a primary disorder. Its effects can vary according to its causes. They might include sleepiness, muscular fatigue, hallucinations, and/or mental fatigue; but people with chronic insomnia often show increased alertness. OTHER TIMES I AM UTTERLY MISERABLE AND WOULD CLUB A BABY SEAL IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO GET TO SLEEP. TODAY IS ONE OF THOSE DAYS. WOKE UP AT 8 AM YESTERDAY MORNING, STAYED UP TILL ABOUT 12:30 PM TODAY. WHEN I TRIED TO FALL ASLEEP IT JUST WOULDN'T HAPPEN. COULDN'T GET MY BRAIN TO SHUT OFF. THINKING ABOUT BULLSHIT THINGS. FINALLY MANAGED TO CRASH FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND HALF. IT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE SLEEP THOUGH, MORE LIKE A PROLONGED BLINK OF THE EYE WHERE YOU WAKE UP AND FELL WORSE THEN YOU TRIED TO SLEEP IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW I'M HAVING SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND I AM EVEN MORE ANGRY THEN I NORMALLY AM. HOPEFULLY I CAN TAKE A SHOWER AND WASH OFF SOME OF THE COBWEBS THAT ARE LINGERING ON MY THOUGHTS AT THE MOMENT. DRINK SOME ENERGY DRINKS, BECAUSE THE COFFEE I HAVE BEEN DROWNING IS MAKING ME FEEL MORE SICK THEN ALERT, THEN TRY AND GO OUT TONIGHT GET UTTERLY BLASTED DRUNK AND THEN PASS OUT INTO A NICE WARM BLACKOUT SLEEP.
