Listening Ears

Today in the beautiful sunshine a little girl was sitting on the climbing plank, and this is how the conversation went.....

Shell: "can you please put on your shoes and socks?"

Child: .......

Shell: " where are your listening ears today?"

Child: " i dont know"

Shell: " i dont know either"

Child: "well last night! a monster came into my house and took them"

Shell: " what your listening ears?"

Child: " yes shell"

Rock n Roll

standing out in the yard today watching over the kids, they were happy doing what they were doing. i look across and a gorgeous little boy whos all of 4 is sitting on a stack of soft plush climbing blocks by himself is singing randomly as children do from time to time this is what he was singing

We built this city, we  built this city on rock and roll!

Moving House

one afternoon a beautiful bright bubbly little girl comes up to me all excited and says to me "shell ive got something to show you its in my bag" i convince the girl that now is not the time maybe later when the other children have woken up from their nap so she agrees to this wonders off and returns to playing with her friends a little bit later on she comes over to me and asks me if now is ok i say sure she rushes over to her bag comes back with a turtle shell.. i make a great big fuss over it tell her its awesome i then ask "what happened to the turtle?" another girl sitting at the drawing table decides she knows the answer and pipes up "its dead shell" i take a moment frown somewhat and then ask in response "no what if it just moved house?" the little girl takes a moment to ponder this with a complex look on her face and after shes weighed up all the options she says to me "no shell its dead"

case of the stolen water

One hot sunny afternoon, out in the yard we had set up some water play, i had perched myself on a rock and was watching the kids as they played happily in the water splashing laughing generally doing what kids do the most, one little boy sitting in the clam shell pool full of water looks up at me and says "shell im going to fill my hat with water"... "ok sure" i respond so he proceeds to do so dunking his hat in the water he then lifts it up and puts it on his head he turns to me again and says "shell i got water in here did you know?" as he points to the hat on his head i smile at him and say " wow thats fantastic " he decides to hop out of the clam shell pools looks across the yard to spots his friend whos sitting on the wooden fort then yells across the yard "hey!! friend i got water in my hat... see!!" he pulls the hat off his head and shows the friend he then looks in his hat with a puzzled look looks up to his friend and asks "did you steal my water?"

Tacos

Sitting at the table amongst the kids as they had their afternoon tea, the toddlers were set free from their yard and a adorable boy all of 2 who i talk to regularly and who makes me laugh at times came over said hello to me had a cuddle so cos his so cute and all i ended up giving him a biscuit he says to me

"tacos?"

"yeah we had tacos for lunch today already"

"i have tacos at my home"

"do you?"

"yeah! i love tacos"

Cranky Mum!

Today i was out in the blistering scorching sun watching over the tub of water with boats in it as the kids happily played in the cold water a little boy all of 4 walks over to me stands at my feet looking up at me i look down and he says "pick me up!" i reply "pick me up please" i bend down hoist the child up and onto my hip he lays his head on my shoulder giving me a cuddle as i stand there holding the boy conversing with him i ask " how bout i throw you in the water?" he promptly says "no!!"

"awwww why not?"

"because my clothes will get wet"... fair enough reason i thought to myself and then he says "and my mum will be very cranky at you"

Bonk your Head

Our sandpit at work is encompassed by these rather largish rocks that majority of the time the kids seem to like to climb over or walk around on, and today as i was circling the sandpit walking along these rocks with a trail of kids behind me a lil boy speaks to me from the bike path says to me "hey shell you cant walk on those rocks".., "why not?" i ask the boy a little bit puzzled to which the reply came " cos your to big you will bonk your head" referring of course to the shade cloth that was miles away from my head

Eye rolling

Yesterday whilst sitting down on the couch for a few minutes, a little boy all of 5 comes up to me and jumps all over me as usual so then after having a pile of little bodys all over me i shooed them off and it was just me and him, so i turn to him and say

"hey can you do this?" to which i then placed my fingertips on the bottom of my eyes and pulled the skin down whilst rolling my eyes back and only showing the white parts, i successfully managed to gross him out because he says to me

"eewwww shell..... do that again?"

Ribbet!

Seeing how hot and muggy it was today the children all got asked to go and have a drink from the bubbler's to ensure that they don't over heat or dehydrate and as they swarm around waiting to get a chance at having a drink a little boy says to me "shell theres a frog"... "where?!?" i ask he leans over looking down the drain in the sink i lean over the top of him and look down theres no frog there but this little boy is concentrating really hard on looking to see this so called frog, me being me ceases the opportunity i give a quick light poke to the sides of his belly and say in a deepish voice "RIBBET"  it scared him and he jumped out of his skin

Fortunately for me a little girl who had heard him say there was a frog there but didn't see me scare him came up to have a look for this frog she bent over looking down the drain and as she did i once more gave a quick light poke to her sides and in my deep voice said "RIBBET" she to jumped out of her skin

Pockets?!?

Today in the sweltering heat and humidity i plonked myself down on the large soft block next to the small trampoline in the shade under the tree to watch the children and make sure they were taking turns and sharing the trampoline when a boy all of two years old come screaming across the yard yelling my name i smile and say his name back to him and he says to me with the UT most enthusiasm and excitement he declares to me " I have pockets" i get all excited and say "pockets! thats awesome!.. and what do you have in your pockets?" and as he stands there so cute and boyish he replies
