Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District personnel spent more than an hour freeing and transporting the injured passengers of a car and the motorcycle rider. Details into the crash were sketchy late Sunday, and Kane County Coroner Charles West said he hadn’t heard of the crash as of 9:20 p.m. The driver of the motorcycle, whose name was not released Sunday, was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where the driver was pronounced dead on arrival, according to a news release. The driver and a passenger in the car were freed by fire personnel and taken to the same hospital in serious condition, according to the news release. The accident happened around 5:22 p.m. on Route 72 east of Route 47. Members of the Kane County Sheriff’s office, as well as South Elgin, Rutland-Dundee, Hampshire fire-rescue squads and Flight for Life, also responded to the crash 1 dead, 2 hurt in motorcycle vs. car crash (http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/couriernews/news/323126,3_1_EL02_A1CRASH_S1.article) April 2, 2007 By GLORIA CARR STAFF WRITER RUTLAND TOWNSHIP -- A man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash between a motorcycle and a car Sunday evening on Illinois 72. Eric A. Fredenburg, 48, of the 8N200 block of Cheviout Drive, Bartlett, was pronounced dead at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin shortly after he was transported from the scene. The other victims were identified as Pamela Nalon-Thompson, 49, of the 1900 block of Wisteria Court, Naperville, who was the driver of the car, and Kimberly Thompson, 17, who witnesses said was the driver's daughter. Thompson and her daughter were extricated from their vehicle and also transported to Provena, and paramedics said both victims were in serious condition, however sheriff's deputies could not give an update on their conditions at press time. A preliminary investigation showed Thompson was driving westbound on Illinois 72, attempting to turn left into a business parking lot. Fredenburg was heading eastbound on 72 and was unable to avoid colliding with the car. Thompson was cited with failure to yield while turning left and for driving on the wrong side of the roadway. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in an area known as Stark's Corner where Illinois 72 intersects with Illinois 47 and U.S. 20. Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District responded to the accident and received mutual aid from Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District, Hampshire, and South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District. Elyas Sarkiss was working at the Stark's Corner gas station and convenient store. The store's front windows look out at the intersection. "We heard a motorcycle going really fast then we heard what sounded like a bomb," Sarkiss said, adding he heard the motorcycle rev its engine just before the crash. The motorcycle hit the car on the right passenger side, he said. "I went up there, we saw him (a man on the motorcycle) laying on the side of the (easement)," he said, adding other witnesses arrived on the scene trying to help. "We called 911. We don't know if he made it." The white car remained on Illinois 72, facing the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes, its roof partially caved in and the passenger door gone. The motorcycle lay on its side nearby. A cold wind blew a yellow measuring tape around as investigators tried taking measurements at the scene. An investigator also took photographs from different angles of both vehicles. Another witness, Pam A., who declined to give her last name, came out to the scene because she heard the ambulances from her home in a neighboring Pingree Grove subdivision. Her son had just left to go to the gas station and she was worried he had been in an accident, she said. She watched the scene from a short distance away. "I see half the car on the right side is pretty much gone," Pam A. said. She also saw a helicopter on the scene but did not see anyone transported so she wondered whether there was a fatality involved. Pam A. said the intersection is becoming a dangerous one due to the growth in the area. She was almost involved in a collision that same morning, she said. The county needs to change the speed limit or expand the roadway, she said. Motorcyclist killed near Hampshire By Gene Haschak Daily Herald Staff Writer Posted Tuesday, April 03, 2007 A Bartlett man was killed and two women were injured in a collision between a car and a motorcycle Sunday evening near Hampshire. Eric A. Fredenburg, 48, was eastbound on Route 20 on his motorcycle when he was struck by a westbound white 2004 Pontiac driven by Pamela Nalon-Thompson, 49, of the 1900 block of Wisteria Court, Naperville, officials said Monday. Fredenburg was treated by a Flight for Life helicopter crew and taken by ambulance to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he died about an hour later. An autopsy will be conducted this morning. Nalon-Thompson and her front-seat passenger, Kimberly Thompson, were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph, where a hospital spokesman said they were in stable condition Monday evening. Witnesses told police Nalon-Thompson was westbound and attempted to make a left turn into a business parking lot when she collided with Fredenburg's Harley-Davidson. Kane County police said Nalon-Thompson was cited for failure to yield while turning left and for driving on the wrong side of the highway. Debbie Magrone of Love's Park said firefighters removed the entire roof of the Pontiac to extricate the two women inside. Eric "EZ" Fredenburg was a Past Grandmaster of the Carpentersville Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was active in the Odd Fellow Century Lodge's annual Benefit Poker Run. The poker run started at the Penny Road Pub in South Barrington and traveled through Woodstock, Garden Prairie, Marengo, Starks and back to South Barrington again. A message on the Odd Fellow's Web site Monday stated, "Eric Fredenburg was a cornerstone of Century Lodge #492 and a true ambassador of oddfellowship." Fredenburg's family said Monday afternoon his funeral arrangements were still incomplete Messages from brother and friends Dan, Arlene,Nicolas, Jordyn < hd85anniv@yahoo.comThis email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it > To All The Brothers and Sisters who miss Eric "EZ" Fredenburg: For Those I Love For Those Who Love Me When I am gone, release me, let me go... I have so many things to see and do, You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears, Be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love. You can only guess, How much you gave me in happiness... I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve for me awhile, if grieve you must Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for awhile that we must part, So bless the memories that lie within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on , So if you need me call and I will come. Though you can't see me or touch me I'll be near And if you listen with your heart you'll hear, All my love around you, soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone... I'll greet you with a smile and "WELCOME HOME" From: Dennis Spears [mailto: mutant69@xxxxxx.netThis email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ] Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2007 5:46 PM To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Subject: Biker Friends I saw you, hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But, you didn't see me, put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you, pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But, you didn't see me, playing Santa at the local mall. I saw you, change your mind about going into the restaurant. But, you didn't see me, attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief. I saw you, roll up your window and shake your head when I drove by. But, you didn't see me, driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window. I saw you, frown at me when I smiled at your children. But, you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless. I saw you, stare at my long hair. But, you didn't see me, and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love. I saw you, roll your eyes at our leather coats and gloves. But, you didn't see me, and my brothers donate our old coats and gloves to those that had none. I saw you, look in fright at my tattoos. But, you didn't see me, cry as my children where born and have their name written over and in my heart. I saw you, change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But, you didn't see me, going home to be with my family. I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But, you didn't see me, when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane. I saw you, yelling at your kids in the car. But, you didn't see me, pat my child's hands, knowing he was safe behind me. I saw you, reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But, you didn't see me, squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn. I saw you, race down the road in the rain. But, you didn't see me, get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date. I saw you, run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But, you didn't see me, trying to turn right. I saw you, cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But, you didn't see me, leave the road. I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But, you didn't see me. I wasn't there. I saw you, go home to your family. But, you didn't see me. Because, I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But, you didn't see me. Repost this around in hopes that people will understand the biker community . Last Updated ( Wednesday, 04 April 2007 )
