Today my offer of friendship to someone was soundly rebuked. The opening line was "I hate military," which is I have to add very poor english. Silly person, you forgot the definate article. Perhaps more free schooling, in a nation that is defended by the very thing that you hate, is required?
I understand her resentment indeed. I mean the military is often a symbol and reflection of more oppressive times. However, to set some things straight, I would like to make it known for the record that our military is far less conservative or oppressive than many militaries in the world!
Maybe she was more concerned about war and hates what we are doing? Well, no shit! I keep forgetting how much I like being worried about death at any given moment...if anyone should hate the military it is soldiers; yet, we are a pretty happy lot.
Oh, oh....maybe she hates the uniforms? Or maybe the god-damn freedom offered to those that hate us so much...hmmmm...hate the police, too?
Now, I am pretty frigging liberal...voted democrat all my life. Hell, I even rooted for Mondale. I give to the American Chestnut Tree Society, the Haven, and other conservationist groups...I know soldiers that go out of their way to be big brothers and big sisters, which is more than most Americans do!
Overall, except for securing our country, providing humanitarian aid, giving assistance to those in the greatest need, and basically sacrificing our lives for an ideal...what the hell good are we for anyway?
I know that her rebuke was simply proof positive that what we do is working...because in Nazi Germany you could never have said that...in Communist Russia that would never have been allowed, and certaintly in Afghanistan as a woman you wouldn't have been allowed outside...
So, freedom, my dear, is certainly not free. It comes with a price that people like me and better are willing to pay. As you used your freedom of speech to voice your ignorance...er...opinion, so shall I...fuck you!
