gRabshaFt was created back in 2000 or so when O.G. Toughlove and thejMc a.k.a SnatchMasta formed together to make a band that defied definition. Then as it turned out, we mainly defied being a band. I, thejMc played bass for a St. Louis area band called Bother the Weak and Toughlove was playing bass in a band called the Rock Molesters. Its not that either of us were unhappy with our current situations, however we felt we could both offer more in way of other stuff. Toughlove liked the drums and I the guitar. As it turned out, I wasn’t too good at guitar but O.G. was an excellent drummer. I went to back to bass and he and I were so together that we had no choice but continue this thing.
Next, we needed a name and we decide on one. About that, I’d like to take a moment and clear something up. Just because a group calls itself gRabshaFt does not necessarily mean that the members must be gay. Feel free to say it, I’ve heard it all before. It generally goes like this: “Are you one of them queers? Cuz I don’t really like them queers too much. Them fruity bastards all got names like Kyle and Blake. I like them less-be-ins, though.” No Larry, I’m not one of those guys. Let me explain it to you really slow…gRabshaFt insinuates that the shaft, or penis is being grabbed. Not sure where the insinuations that it must be another male grabbing it comes from exactly, but it does seem to be there. Has it ever occurred to you that its possible that a sexy little green eyed vixen may be grabbing the shaft? A vixen is a female fox, Larry, and a fox is generally what is associated with a pretty girl.
Just thought I’d put that out there for anyone that is interested or concerned about the name of our group. Why would we call ourselves gRabshaFt, you ask. It’s simple really, because its funny and it gets a ton of attention. But mainly because it’s funny.
From there we made songs. A bunch of songs, however, we weren’t that great at recording them and we weren’t knowledgeable enough in recording to get anything clear. Then I moved away and that was basically the end of gRabshaFt. I still wrote but I just didn’t have anyone to play with. After a few years, I moved back, however, everyone is now married and its really tough to get together around every ones lifestyle. However, I still continue to write and now I can record on my computer for some pretty decent quality stuff.
That’s it really. gRabshaFt is a band. Not really a good one, but a band. We like it and we have fun when we get the chance to play. Maybe one day when the time is right, gRabshaFt will have the chance to move from my basement to the big stage and the rest will then become history.
