hey everyone, i've made some tweaks to the way member profile ratings work over the last 24 hours. the changes reduce the load on our system by a huge amount and also have the side effect of letting people earn more points by rating other members more often. basically, it works the same way as the photo rating system. you can now rate someone every 7 days, and every 7 days (or anytime after that) you'll both receive full credit for the rating (including rating count). just as before, you can *always* re-rate anyone at anytime, but if it hasn't been 7 days you won't get any points/credit for it. previously, a member could only rate another member once... and that was it. i think this new way is more fun and gives everyone a reason to show their friends more love, more often. if you notice any problems with the new system, feel free to post here. cheers! For those that hadn't noticed: Friday afternoon we released the fubar Midgets onto the world! They're basically mini profile widgets (hence the name). They look very similar to the tooltips on fubar, only you can embed them almost anywhere (myspace, facebook, your blog, etc). They're updated in real-time, so your friends can see your current fubar status, click through to your profile/photos etc. The best part is-- you get fubucks/points everytime someone sees it! (unique viewers, not including when you embed it on fubar.com) On your (power) homepage you'll also find a 'Midget Views' row in the center of your stats. From there you can track how often people are viewing it and how many fubucks/points you're getting. You can find your Midget by clicking on the 'My' tab on the header bar at the top of the page. Or by going to your Midget's page. In the near future we'll be adding more stuff for people to do through the midget... rating/commenting/messaging/etc. Stay tuned... -mike my midget:

Last night, I enabled some new photo navigation when browsing full-size photos in albums. It should look pretty much the same as it did before, but it should be a lot faster and much easier to use. Feel free to post here if you're having any troubles with the new navigation. Cheers! -mike

hey everyone, if you hadn't noticed, there's now a link on your profile settings page (next to the 'Bartab Content' option) to configure some more advanced filters for the mini-bartab box that's at the top of every page. you can turn on or off every alert by type.... ie: if you only want to see when people rate you an 11 and leave you a comment, you can see that. or if you only care when your friends post comments on other peoples' mumms, you can see just that. for the first few days it was vip only, but it's now usable by everyone. let me know if you have any problems... cheers! edit: woops, i forgot to do a rollout to the site to turn it on for everyone.. it's going out now, and will be there in about 5-10 minutes. :-) -mike

go to your my photos page, at the bottom of each album page you'll find a 'change order of photos' link. click that, and drag and drop the photos where you want them. once you're finished, click the save button at the bottom of the page. let me know if you find any problems. werd. -mike

hey everyone, i'm working on migrating back to the old private message system. the current email/message system seems to be way to much overkill for the site, and it makes communication more cumbersome than it needs to be. if you have a custom url/email address setup, it will still work. for example, i'll still be able to receive email from my friends outside fubar at babyjesus@fubar.com. you'll also still be able to respond to these emails, and send them to people not on the site. the downside of this migration is that old messages in the current system will be lost. as i type this, all messages are currently being written to both systems, so when we actually cut over your inbox won't be empty-- but it will only contain messages from the last 24-48 hours. if you have anything in your inbox now, that's really important i recommend that you forward it off to another email address otherwise it may be lost. i know some of the newer members don't know what the 'old private message system' was like, and i think all of the older members would agree that it was much simpler and easier to use. hopefully this change will make the site better for everyone, so please be patient over the next day or so as we move back to the old system. there will undoubtedly be bugs or things i missed, so your patience is greatly appreciated. i promise to be (mostly) sober during this maintenance..... thanks! :D -mike

In order to help clean up the bullshit that's being posted in mumms lately (and pretty much, since we implemented them), I'm working on a few changes. The main change will be their 'scope'. By default, mumms will only be shown to your friends. If you want to create a 'global' mumm that shows up on everyones homepage, you go through the same process, only it'll cost more fuBucks. If you make a mumm for your friends, you can still post the link around and have other people (non-friends) vote/comment on it, but it won't show up on their homepage as a recent mumm. I'm still figuring out what the pricing will be for each, but the mumms for your friends will be cheaper than they are now. viva la resistance! -mike

hey everyone, our colocation provider (the people who host all the fubar servers) had power outages between 4am and 6am PST this morning (sunday). this caused a bunch of stuff to die, including databases. i just finished rebuilding the databases, so things should be back to normal now... sorry for the trouble! it's time for a beer! -mike

hey everyone, we've been hard at work trying to improve some of the older/jankier portions of fubar. this afternoon i'll be replacing the old photo management page with a new version which lets you update captions/flags/delete/etc for all of your photos at once, instead of doing them one at a time. included in this change will be the ability to share your albums with friends who aren't fubar.com members. they'll be able to browse your albums and photos without having to login or join the site (this only applies to your public albums/photos). you'll be able to find these changes on your photos page once i've turned it on. cheers! -mike
