Duke Boomington's blog: "Frienship"

I recently lost a friend that i cared a good deal about. She is intelligent and hillarious and great to hang around with and I will miss her although it was I who had to end the friendship. I've seen those bulletins in myspace about the definitions of friendship and I've even seen a few on here too. You know the kind where they say a true friend doesnt pick you up from jail , a true friend is there beside you in jail. Well, I think thats bullshit, those kinds of friends are not true friends, they are TROUBLE. Anyway, I lost her as a friend because i told her things she didnt want to hear, a couple of times i was wrong and did apologize for it like any true friend would do. But none the less, she didnt want to hear anything other than her own point of veiw on life. So she got mad at me. She got so mad that even though she chooses to call me everyday and i continued to talk to her when i could have done anything else really, she had to say that because i didnt call her on my own cognisence. Basicly that she had to initiate every conver sation we had and that I couldnt call her on my own. Now I did call her on my own on a few occasions, but for the most part she called me each and everyday and we would talk for anywhere from 20 mins to a few hours. In those phone conversations it was always a 2 way conversation, no one really dominated them either so it wasnt like she was putting the entire effort to make the friendship work. On to MY definition of a true friendship. I think true friends should care so much about one another, that when one is going through problems that not only is the other person there for them, but also give them the advice as far as doing the right thing to avoid either further conflict or to get better in general and be the best person they can possibly be. I'm a firm believer that you never stop learning and that just because you become of adult age that it doesn't mean you stop learning. When i was younger i thought i knew everything and since about 5 years ago I've learned I dont know everything but I do know quite a bit , based on experience and learning the hard way. So if I see my friends going down a path i once did, I do everything i can to try to help them learn so that they dont have to go through the pain I did. Unfortunately with the friend i just lost, those sentiments fell on deaf ears. Life goes on, and I will make new friends. One thing I did learn is that friends come and go in life. She will make new friends too. I can only hope her new friends will care as much as i did. So , no, true frienship is not that friends thats sitting in jail next to you. The TRUE friend is the one that comes and bails ya out of jail and on the ride home, 'biffs' ya upside the head and says "WTF were you thinking, dumbass?" . Thanks everyone. Have a great day!
