Good Morning… today’s story is being delivered in two parts. The first part of the story is for those of you who like a good story and love happy endings… you know the John Boy Walton Christmas epic. However the second part of the story is from the deranged mind of Marty. I trust those of you who want happy endings will choose the first story and then call it quits. Good idea.
The story is from yesterdays papers, world news and perhaps talk show programs all over the USA and perhaps further into Canada and Mexico. I am sure more coverage will be given to this story then that of Paris Hiltons new perfume.. Because the media is always looking for hero’s... .. No I do not know that she has a line of perfume I am just guessing… so on with the good news about the Dominguez Family and their rescue. Thank their lucky stars that the two California Rescue workers did not give up on them. The family which by now we all know ventured out into the woods to fetch a Family Christmas tree right after they finished attending a church service on Sunday. The trouble comes when they were turned around by overzealous activity which occurred as the children went from tree to tree searching the woods for that special tree. The family lost direction and became lost, it happens trust me. Being a long time hunter and outdoorsy type I know how one hill looks like the next and like the last five you passed… panic sets in and the world is all a blur on which direction is the correct. Not only lost they now had to battle the elements of old man winter tossing in a winter storm which apparently dumped 8” of snow that Sunday evening and the family had to huddle together so not to freeze… three days later and more snow and numerous songs, prayers and more movement by the family their misfortune took a turn in the right direction they were found alive. Yes some frostbite to deal with but home just the same. Thanks to the efforts of the California rescue teams involved. A miracle like the stories written about it claimed…
Now here comes the Marty side of the story and again this is just because what you see with me is what you get with me. Honest and to the point.
WHAT in the HELL was he thinking!!!! Oh right… he wasn’t…Doesn’t California have Christmas tree lots? You know like the ones they show in the Movies? I mean I have seen them, I know most Wall-Marts have some kind of venue to purchase one… Why take three teenagers out in the forest, which by the way looked like a national forest which no doubt is a federal offense to cut any tree down without a permit… Oh had he gotten a permit perhaps someone would have figured out they were lost and needed help. …Ok banish that thought because I am sure no one in their right mind would give them a permit to cut down a tree on federal land… Let’s call that Mistake number 2… Oh I did not give you a number 1 yet? How about let’s use him having custody of the children and endangering their welfare. Is that good enough? Ok moving on to # 3 First off while venturing into any woods one is not familiar with take along a compass! It is always useful no matter if you can’t read the damned thing… No compass equals mistake number 3. Dressing children in proper attire for winter hiking is always a good idea to know how cold it is and how long they plan to be out… Since they chose to not purchase the tree from a farm or tree lot, they planned on not paying for the tree…hmmm imagine that… mostly those trees ganked out of the ground by those not intending to pay for said tree find out the tree they just ripped off tend to lose their needles fairly quick… so the smart money is on buying from a safe source. So that is mistake 4 and 5… stop me if too many mistakes are dangerous. Mistake 6 comes into play when they did not pack a cell phone walkie talkie or some kind of devise used in case of an emergency…Yes I believe this called for an emergency plan just in case… Now here is where I am going to just go wild… no I am not going into mistake 7,8,9 and 10 I will give that to others,… no doubt some media will be hard on them and they should. But here is where the rubber meets the road… Being stupid, being lucky as hell from what should have been a tragic event does not mean you should be rewarded for your mistake. Now watch the talk show queens and kings attempt to grab that family up. Already NBC a good morning show had a clip on the web or on the show of an interview with the children’s aunt. OH this also bothers me, the Aunt is younger then the kids! I hate when the nephews and nieces are older then the aunts and uncles… bad planning…yes I know mistakes happen… pretty soon the children are going to be older then the parents…just kidding! I just hope Ellen and Oprah do not present this dumbass with a million gifts… I am sure those who want to get the publicity are already offering Christmas trees and other gifts to the family. I need to come down from this podium and re-focus on the up coming holiday cheer… I will have my Eight Day of Christmas wish out to you soon in the next email… Have a tremendous weekend and just in case you do not have your tree yet… do not venture out in a federal forest….please…
