Way to go Mom! That’s my salute to a lady that took charge over her son’s indiscretions and stood her ground. Here is a little blurb that was on MSN. DES MOINES, Iowa - Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet."
After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone — by placing an ad in the local newspaper.
The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet." Obviously the boy did not take out the ad or use sound judgment in this day and age of “The Celebrity News Headlines”. Most of their celebrity idols being busted on Alcohol or Drugs in possession charges or running over a fence and looking totally un-cool with no make-up on. My hat is off to this lady for showing comedy in her statement but being stern to the fact, no means no. I had a similar situation with my eldest daughter Jessica. I was not a fan favorite at the time of taking her car away. But I felt that I was at least to be on a “Need to know Basis”. As with all of the girls. Oh no I do not need to know all the womanly function features of the girls. Lord knows I had that etched in memory and have the all mighty knowledge that comes from pasted experience but, items such as not making it home by curfew or speeding ticket, MIP, fender benders and the all inclusive car making a funny noise, oh by the way it just started happening… yes I need to know those things, bald tires, brake lights on you know the every other little un-timely mishap. But, as I said this woman took charge and perhaps her doing this via Newspaper article might make the door open for those who do not talk with their kids. Who do not pry, who do not know what is going on in their lives. You know there are plenty of ads, on kids having early sex, smokes, drinking on TV that show kids actually wanting their parents to intervene. I salute them all. Because a child who is left alone to feel alone, will find comfort in that which we all fear. That is just the dad in me coming out… Yeah I can be goofy, I can be funny… I have cooked breakfast for friends of the girls long enough to know by the way the girls snicker and say, I wished my dad did this for us at home… You know what? I do too…
