CINNAMON ROLLS
Roll Dough:
2 packages dried yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 egg
1/2 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons melted shortening
1 cup lukewarm milk
5 cups flour
Place yeast, milk and 2 tablespoons sugar in a bowl. Let stand until yeast is dissolved. Stir in everything else, except flour. Add flour and mix and knead on lightly floured board until firm and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl. Cover and let rise in warm place, free from drafts until doubled in bulk. Work down. Shape dough into oblong roll. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Spread melted butter over the top and then cover with sugar and cinnamon. Place raisins if desired on top of that. In skillet, add 1 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white syrup to 1/2 melted butter. Stir until dissolved. Add nuts to this. Cut dough roll and place in heavy skillet or rectangular baking dish, not glass. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
