Was actually written as an introduction to one of my MANY characters. Was written in 2012, probably around June-Julyish. It was just after I had graduated from high school. The poem itself is pretty confusing, but in a way, that is what it was supposed to be... confusing.
A freedom butterfly,
Kept away from the sky,
closes his eyes,
Pretending to be shy.
Strengthening his wings to rise,
he refuses to listen to all their lies.
With a single, exaggerated sigh,
He begins to wonder why.
Losing his worldly ties,
one more day of life he does buy,
as he dreams of a time he could fly,
and soared so very high.
He lets out a high pitched cry,
Takes of into the skies,
No longer able to deny,
the chance to fly,
among the clouds of July.
In time we may spy,
The freedom butterfly
Soaring again in the summer sky.
But for now we can see in his eyes,
It is time we say good-bye.
