Being popular

Good Morning to my faithful blog readers ... "The MANY faithful" *cue the Peter Gabriel indy hit song "She's so popular" for added effect* Yesterday - to quote a famous Cajun Chef, "I kicked it up a little -BAM!" (eh, seriously ... I must of hit some freak frenzy when I posted my LC bulletin about my blog on here and three other sites) I was curious this morning how many hits I got for this out of the usual stunt may have got me ... wow! I noticed that "BLOGS" is now listed under the "TOP" this and that (blogs-cherries-photos-scores-bulletins are all listed in order) on the right top of my homepage. Checking it I found I'm the 16th most popular blog-poster (as of last night) I'm surprised, I didn't even know that I knew enough people on here to register so high on the popular chain. I've had my brushes of popularly here at "Lost Cherry" and a few other sites, (being 'Number One' on "OkCupid") Which had started out as a "Dating Site" (much like "Lost Cherry" started out as an "Extreme Sports" site -kind of) Here (at the ol "LC") the highest ranking I ever noticed myself at was 112th - (then my computer took a chit) and I watched my rank go straight down to 999th (I'm guessing to keep us low life's egos at afloat ... it doesn't go any lower than that) *shrugs* Popularity and me are old adversaries at best -- a worthy opponent -- you could say. Befriended with Popularity - I've soared above, with popularity at your side you do feel invincible. You should always keep an eye on the bottom ... (cause baby I know how quick a red carpet can be yanked away and you tumble -crash- quite hard) I know from experience though -- when Popularity turns its back on you ... You are left venerable and exposed, looking to fall back on Popularity? - Phshal - It's not there -- matter-a-fact ... it will turn against you. Popularity is not loyal, its as flighty and unreliable as things get. I grew up in a small town, being creative and ummm ... flirty: I'm very well know in this town. Playing sports for the local team, in some popular bands in my day -PLUS- add my "career" of Restaurateur - if I didn't serve them some of their favorite food or drink, then I probably married somebody they know or love. I go to Walmart, I'm surprised if I make it without bumping into at least 3 people (that know me) ... IN EACH ISLE! *laughs* Small towns keep you in check with reality as far as popularity goes. To survive this long and still get at least 90% of sincere smiles back from the locals is good. Those of you who have lived in small towns know ... EVERYTHING you do is a matter of public record. I've had my peeks and valleys to even gutters ... Not only here, but in other City's as well. *flashes his -infamous- smile* I at my ripe age, I still like a small amount of 'limelight.' I don't mind flying under the radar and cruising in most things though. With advanced age, you know not to fall under the influence of popularity and expect it to last. Some might take a sudden spike in popularity - to use as a platform to voice their beliefs and share some knowledge that years can only give them ... Me? eh, welcome to my blog ... Sit back, hope you brought a power bar and took a nap ... Yeah, I'm winded ... DAMB ... "I got nothing" *walks away into the darkness, bewildered and lost from all the light that blinded him from nowhere ... he exits scratching his head*
