"This is pretty sweet to be in the gold jacket and hold this trophy that Ive been admiring since I was a little kid. "It wasnt a mistake in club selection, it was a poor swing," Poulter said. "So, if youre going to make a poor swing in that situation then youre going to get punished, and I did. I made a good 6 in the end, but a bogey theres costly and obviously a bogey on the next par 5 was also very costly. "It was good to try and defend. Im obviously just a little disappointed that I wasnt slipping another jacket on." Scott tapped in for birdie on the par-5 first to quickly join Poulter at the top, and the lead changed six times in seven holes. After trailing by three strokes, Poulter made it interesting with an eight-foot birdie putt on 16 to pull within two, and the margin could have been closer. Scott was short of the green, but pitched to within four feet and made his par putt to make the swing just one shot. Poulter gave away any chance of catching Scott when he lipped out on 17, increasing the margin back to three before Scotts birdie on 18. The outside linebacker was re-signed Monday, along with wide receiver Patrick Turner, two days after the Jets surprisingly cut their longest-tenured player. Thomas was told Saturday by general manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan that the Jets had to make a roster move "for the better of the team" but promised to bring him back before elevating cornerback Donnie Fletcher from the practice squad in time for New Yorks game at Miami on Sunday. It was a decision that didnt sit well at first with Thomas, who was the teams first-round pick in 2002 out of UAB. "I was (ticked off)," Thomas said Monday in the Jets locker room. "Theres no other word about it. Just (ticked off). Mad. Thats all I could say about it." The Jets also cut Fletcher, defensive lineman Marcus Dixon and offensive tackle Dennis Landolt. Thomas has been a key part of the Jets defence, mostly as a solid run-stuffing linebacker. It took him a few days to get over being cut for the first time in his career.
