What are you waiting for?

It’s time to party everyone!!! Earlier this evening I signed on with a contractor to do my roof- depending on the extent of squirrel damage (cost to repair) I may even be able to do the garage roof also. For those of you who don’t know my home- when I bought it- the dining room did not have any sheet rock on the walls or ceiling- (And the garage roof is deteriorating- you can stand inside and look up to see the whole big dipper on a starry night) Of course my boyfriend at the time (Mr. Take ten years to fix it) said “Buy it ‘as is’- you’ll get a better price and I’ll have the sheet rock up within a couple days.” He did get a good start on insulating- but, that’s as far as he got- You see, the roof leaks and you can’t really put sheet rock up when it’s going to be ruined by the rain or melting snow trickling in (in some cases pouring in). So, needless to say, for almost the last three years now I have had no walls in my dining room. As you may imagine- this causes my heating bill (and cooling) to be a little higher than normal. I was also a bit depressed this last July when we had that week long downpour and looked up at the corner of my living room ceiling to see the tiles bulging and stained as though one poke would send a flood rushing down on top of me. -The guy said he would be able to start in about two weeks. It’s going to be weird not having to worry about it anymore- and to have walls in my dining room. Come to think of it- I don’t know if I’ll be able to get to sleep without the squirrels playing “Hide the Acorn” and “See Who’s Scratching is Loud Enough To Wake Kellie Up”. Not to mention all my pet bats who won’t be able to find they’re way in anymore- Yes, I will miss those 2am trapping and releases. Nothing is more beautiful than the sound of leathery wings flapping in circles over your head while you sleep- and the breeze they make is as gentle as if my window were open on a warm summers night. -Speaking of squirrels and bats- I never did find the last bat (the only one that ever got away from me- and there’s been an average of one a month). And today I had an energy audit done by SEMCAC (basically they help people by making their homes energy efficient) The two guys that were auditing needed to get into my attic (I have two of them and they needed to be in the one I’ve never been in)- the way to my attic is through my closet where the last bat disappeared into. I had to clean everything out- but I didn’t find the bat. When the men got into the attic they found that the reason I hadn’t been getting any heat to my room or Allies room is that the squirrels have chewed up the duct work. (Which can’t be fixed until the new roof is on because the those cute little wascally wodents would just fuck it up again- and you know? They are so smart!- who knew they would be able to tell the difference between antifreeze and melted blue popsicle). Are you guys ready for more good news???- I don’t know if you can handle this much good news in one blog!? This news is soo good - and I’m so excited that I’ve had angina ever since it was told to me (get your mind outta the gutter- I said ANGINA- and technically it’s not from the news it’s from my allergy medicine)- Here goes............. Not only are they going to replace my duct work but they seem to think that my furnace is too old and gives off too much carbon monoxide- I dunno- they acted like that was bad or something (Drat! My plans to die in my sleep have been foiled- and it would’ve worked too if it hadn’t been for those meddling fools!) Seriously thought it kinda freaks me out a little - so much that I donwanna turn on my furnace- but if I have to- well, then I’m going to open a window!! Haha- Don’t worry- I have a couple CO detectors. Back to the good news- apparently if your furnace is too old and gives off too much CO - they think they need to buy you a new one!!!! Woohoo! A new furnace at no cost to me!! Thank you to all the tax payers out there who have worked so hard to contribute to my new furnace! Muah! Muah! I love you all! You can rest assured that my family and I will be warm and cozy with our new furnace and that your hard earned money has gone too a good cause. Really, you’re fabulous- all of you!- And that’s all I got- my allergy meds are wearing off- I have to go blow my nose
