Nows the time to get your home ready for winter. If you live in an area that experiences sub-freezing temperature during the winter you need to make sure your pipes are protected against the cold. Wrap them in pipe insulation wrapping to protect against them freezing and breaking. Put weather stripping around your doors, and check around your windows for drafts. I still hang plastic over my windows during the winter, it keeps the cold out, but lets the sun in and helps warm your place up. If you have a central heating system make sure your filters are replaced, or clean reusable filters. Also clean out all the vents.
Something a lot of people don't think about are the drafts that can come in around our kitchen cabinets, the way to fix that is put silicon cocking all around the edges, where they meet the ceiling and the floor both.
If you start now you don't have to worry about doing it all at once, winter temperatures can have a devastating effect on water pipes, and on our budget. With gas prices so high a little bit of effort can save a lot of money on utility bills.
