There’s a Man
Who walks all over town
Carry a cup
Asking people
To please fill it up
Most look at him as a beggar
Or a druggie or alcoholic
But he in neither
Of those things
Some people give him money
Just so they can hurry on there way
Not wanting much to do
With a man
Begging on the street
I always saw this Man
Standing on the corner
With his little cup
One day
I struck up a conversation
With him
I asked about his life
And just who he was
He said I am a homeless man
But I’m not begging for me
I was once a powerful man
With a big important Job
I worked many years
Until the company
Closed down
I lost everything I own
But when I was a working Man
I always gave to the kids you see
The ones that live in the orphanage
It was something
The company had done
For many years
Someone would dress up
And play Santa Claus
Well I just loved the feeling
I had inside
When I saw the smile
And light
In those Children’s eyes
Every year
When we would appear
With a bag full of gifts
Just for them
So now
I stand on the streets
Yes the same streets
On which I live
And I hold my cup
Hoping to fill it up
I stand here all year long
Waiting for the money to grow
And then a couple weeks
Before Christmas
I go and buy the gifts
The only thing I kept when I lost
My job my home
And everything I own
Was this
Santa claus suit
I use some of the money
To wrap up the gifts
There are no names printed
On the gifts
As you never know
When a new Child
Has arrived
So Christmas eve
I go to the orphanage
And
I deliver the gifts
The Children
Scream and shout
Santa
Found our house
Their little faces are all smiles
And some have tears
In their eyes
And they jump and shout
As I pass the gifts out
The joy it brings to them
Is the same joy it brings
To me
I tell them Merry Christmas
And I bid them Goodnight
I head out to the streets
To find my bed
For the night
On Christmas eve
I sleep better
Than any other day
Of the year
Because my heart
Is filled with joy
And again the next day
When I wake up
I start out on the streets
My home
Again
Asking for money
To fill my cup again
So if you see me
On the streets
Don’t look at me
Like a common
Beggar
Remember
I do this for the kids
Who would otherwise
Go without
At Christmas time
