Sarasvati is the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, learning and the arts. She is the consort of Lord Brahma, the creator, and is considered to be the most beautiful goddess (although not the most sexual). She's not as material-minded as Lakshmi, just as those with an intellectual streak are generally not as wealthy as their entrepreneurial classmates who went for a Business degree. She rides a swan and sits, peacefully playing her veena. She is the one you turn to for a mastery of an art form or of knowledge.
