Asst. Fire Chief Arrested in Puppy Beating
Glynn Johnson Arrested December 17, 2008
RIVERSIDE-- Sheriff's deputies arrested L.A. County Fire Chief Glynn Johnson today in connection with the beating death of a neighbor's dog. The Riverside County District Attorney's office filed felony charges against Johnson for a Nov. 3rd incident in which Johnson allegedly beat a neighbor's six-month-old puppy. Johnson is said to have hit the puppy, named Karly, with his fist and a 12-pound rock. Karly was later euthanized because of the severity of his injuries. Johnson says the dog nearly bit off his thumb and that he acted in self-defense. But a witness says the attack was the result of a violent outburst from Johnson. In recent weeks, animal rights activists and the puppy's owners have launched a campaign seeking criminal charges against Johnson. Last week, dozens of protesters rallied outside the Riverside County DA's office to demand charges be filed against Johnson. Media attention has also helped publicize the case. Some Southern California radio shows have broadcast the phone number to the district attorney's office and urged listeners to call and pressure officials to file charges. Bail has not yet been set, and his arraignment has not been scheduled.
News article on CNN... Is it just me or is this a bit over the top? I mean, it's a damn dog. Do you realy think arrest is fitting for this crime when children are beaten every day, rapists and registered sex offenders walk free, and domestic violence is rampant? Fupeople, what do you think? Is an beating an animal realy that big of a deal when there are so many worse things that go on in this country? (Yes, animal cruelty is wrong, but come on, people...)
