~Two islands and a bridge~ ~The mind, spirit and body~ ~+~
Our perceptions of our lives and the world are multi dimensional, this is because we see things from three fronts, the body, the mind and the soul (spirit). The spirit is a living energy, this means that it does not need food water, air to breath and in no way materialisms that the flesh lust for. So seeing this truth you can envision what the spirit looks to or for, which is emotions and enlightenment and understanding (knowledge) all else is just passing physical wants. The body on the other hand either wants or needs all of the above things :) So you can see the distance between these two "islands" within us. The one thing both of these entities use and need is the mind. This bridge is what fills in the gap between what we are as a species, and what we are as children (spirits) of God. Below is a narrative of mine that will explain this a little further.

I have spoken about this envisioned state of being before, and it seems to ring true with many. Again everything that happens to each of us is measured only within our perceptions of these things. If your mind is tied down, you will see it this way, if it is free you will see it another way, if it is educated, again the perception alters, if it is one with nature again this changes, many variables within perception can be held close to the heart in faith and belief. But look past this for one moment and try and see things in a "root" form, meaning from where they grow. I call this the vision of the two islands :) One island is our body, the other is our spirit. Now there is third entity there also, you all know what it is; its essence is in a word in the first part of this sentence, the word "know" which is our minds or thought. Why isn't this looked at within my perception as a third island you may ask? Because the way I envision this is as two islands and one bridge between the two. Our minds are the bridge between our souls and our bodies, make sense, maybe not, but think on this a while and then make you own conclusion. And remember :) a conclusion is just a point in time where we surrender the moment to a belief or thought :)
