Wandrnrose's blog: "Spring!"

What???

An hour and a half stuck in traffic on I79 due to traffic accidents due to snow. What a nightmare! Sunday was a balmy 80 degrees. Dear God, it's gotta get better! On a great note, my car was fixed in one day (caliper froze up and ground down the brake on that side) My test is over and I'm inching toward summer break.. it's gotta just get better! Happy Easter!

Perhaps....

So, maybe I jumped the gun a little on Spring..snow is forecast for Sunday, but I am not totally brokenhearted. The robins are back and geese are calling outside, too. I can't say how much seeing the grass does for me. I'm anticipating lazy summer walks by the lake and finally getting outdoors on a regular basis again. (No, I don't go out much in the winter, I just can't get into snow!Imagine that for a Pennsylvania native). I even washed my car yesterday (so, I should really do that a lot more frequently, I admit). I'm holding at bay the temptation to go buy a summer wardrobe, so far, I've behaved quite well, but Spring has just begun! ha ha. In a month and a half I will be a free agent again and school will be a blur just like winter has been. I ran into an old co-worker who said the bank she works at is hiring.. it's tempting, as it's about a buck more an hour. I used my cell phone to calculate the difference, then added up my current benefits at the call center, including Tuition reimbursement to get a feel for the pros and cons. My boss keeps promising more money, but the reality of it is after seven years I've only advanced about $1.60 more an hour. The future doesn't look very good, either, but this friend said she's gotten two dollars more in a year. Doing the math, I feel rather foolissh, but I wanted to figure in the 21 days paid vacation, too before I go stepping on foriegn soil. The sad thing is, my current job is worth so much more in other states, but in Erie, you're dead in the water. Jobs are almost non-exhistant, and many aren't stable, even the top companies regularly lay off or downsize empployees, mine included as we were bought out last year by two investment firms and my job was almost eliminated.. now, I have triple the work, but the pay is the same. With spring, perhaps I'll look closer at everything and maybe make some necessary changes before the new school year. I filled out my FAFSA tonight, so at least I have one piece of the puzzle in place.

Finally!

I can hardly believe it.. it's finally warming up here. after the mildest December I can remember, we had the coldest winter in thirty years in this area (NW PA). I've exprerienced every shade of blue, witnessed countless accidents on my hour commute to Erie, and prayed through numerous white outs that I'd make it to work, school and home. The college only cancels class when there are reports of accidents on the interstate. One night while stil at work we received reports that there was a fifty car pile up that started with a tractor trailor which swerving to avoid another trucker outside of his truck which started the awful chain. The accident blocked all my roads home and closed down I90 for six hours. You get home after a night like that and kiss the snow at your door. The nightmare is about over (but reoccurs every winter around here) and driving through the snow belt, aptly named, will become a white blur left over from this winter. Today it was round 50 degrees, tomorrow promises to be around 60. A friend at work saw a gathering of robins the other day! My daughter called from Alabama on my way home from work and we caught up. The kids were out playing in the new yard, enjoying the sun. Things are falling in place for them there and they love their new home. Their beds are being delivered and she asked for tips on opening the pool (we had a pool when the kids were growing up). They are already making friends with the neighbors and I think it's wonderful that the kids finally have room to run in a rural area (as apposed to the trailer they've lived in for the past four years). The temperature was around 80 degrees there today. She said highs climb to around 110. Now I think I'll go recover from a visit to the evening after work. (Great way to spend Spring Break, yes???)
