Benfica set new Guinness World Record

LISBON, Nov 10 (SW) – It was reported in the Portuguese media today that Benfica of Portugal have just broken the Guinness World Record for the most number of paid up members of any club.
This has passed the previous record set by Manchester United.
Benfica went beyond the Manchester United record of 152 000 with a number in excess of 160 000.
Benfica’s coffers swelled by a massive €13 million from membership fees last season.
That figure accounted for 14% of their total income for the season.
Benfica is a club of the world with over 14 millions fans. Portugal population is only 10 millions, where 5 millions are Benfica fans. So Benfica have more fans outside Portugal then inside.
