It is something that we far too often take for granted. The term narrate actually initially comes from the same root as knowledge. Latin narrare, narrat-, from gnarus, knowing; gno-
Now we are at a convenience cross roads in our own history, which happens to finally converge again as one path in our present society. Around two and a half millennia ago, the concept of Gnostic and knowledge began our separation of science and religion in the Western world. Yet, they have remained constant as narrators, a term which also began at the same time to separate. Gradually, they grew apart while still encompassing many connections.
Now not going into great depth, if you don’t get it, you don’t get it; however, all three of these positions rely on two very simple premises. First, there must be a collective faith for the observation to remain as knowledge. Second, there must be a solidified source of divination from which the knowledge arrives.
The narrator relies on the author, who presents a world that the reader now accepts as a possible reality. This is true insomuch as the reader accepts that in some state, these events are able to coherently continue with a potential conclusion and guidance. Without this potential, the faith would be gone and narration ceases to exist.
The Gnostic obviously relies on a divine or spiritual author. If the message conveyed also fails to meet expectations of unity and conclusion, the same isolation occurs. Finally, it is clear that science does not find any division from these principles. This isn’t a totally knew concept in my thoughts, but it does give justification to doubt.
You see from the start of it all was the narrator. The reliance on the storyteller has been the sole means of faith. How complex and coherent can the images be presented to the viewer? Yet, no matter how much reason may apply within the world created by the narrator; we ultimately must realize that even in the highest of fantasy, closure and fact can be found when the world is controlled by narration alone; so, do you want a good story or do you want the truth?
Keep in mind that we can just as much fulfill the same role in our own lives. We allow the same desires to cloud our reality for what appears most fitting to our story. Sadly, this is why most of us will never know the truth, but don’t be so easily misled to believe that it does not exist. You see, it is only in those places you have been told truth should exist that it certainly does not.
As long as someone else is guiding your knowledge, you will be bound by that first thought; as long as someone else tells your story, you will be portrayed only by their thoughts; as long as your life moves by their faith, you will never escape their fate. Look around, do you see any paradise? It’s time to stop listening…
