LAS VEGAS -- Stereo speaker maker Blaupunkt will show off portable speakers that can also double as a powered subwoofer for a car stereo system at the International Consumer Electronics Show here, the company said Saturday.
Music devices can be hooked up to the speakers, named Velocity 2Go, through a 3.5-millimeter headphone input jack, the company said. There are also rear-panel RCA inputs for use with a home stereo, preamplifier, TV set, or other audio device.
Velocity 2Go's built-in amplifiers are capable of up to 160 watts of power when plugged in or using a standard 12-volt car battery, and 60 watts of power when using eight standard rechargeable AA batteries.
Velocity 2Go is already available in two sizes. The Velocity 2Go 5 has dual 5-1/4-inch woofers and a pair of 3/4 inch tweeters in an 8-liter casing. The larger portable speaker, the Velocity 2Go 6, has two 6-1/2-inch woofers and 1-inch tweeters in a 15-liter enclosure, making it capable of higher output.
The Velocity 2Go 5 sells in the U.S. for $399.95, while the Velocity 2Go 6 is available for $449.95. The company is also offering the QuickOut car dock as an option for $119.95.
