Interests
I like to play games--the kind with clear rules, not the sort to mess with your head--because I enjoy using my brain to figure out new strategies, and I'm more than a little competitive.
I like to read, but most of it nowadays is current events.
That being said, I loved House of Leaves (Mark Danielewski) (I'm also a big Poe fan), and long ago I loved All the King's Men (Robert Penn Warren). Other favorites include Neuromancer (William Gibson), The Waste Land (T.S. Eliot; okay, it isn't a book, but it's literature at least), The Lords of Discipline (Pat Conroy), Bonfire of the Vanities (Tom Wolfe), and Mostly Harmless (Douglas
Adams).
My favorite movies are Romancing the Stone and The Royal Tenenbaums, but if I'm watching DVD's, I'm more likely to watch old TV shows. I'm particularly fond of The Office, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twin Peaks, Firefly, The West Wing, Dead Like Me, Red Dwarf, and NewsRadio, and Coupling. Ooh, and did you know they now have Remington Steele on DVD?
I'm flexible when it comes to food, but I prefer the spicy, and I do like shrimp.
I go out dancing every week, and I'm also a big fan of board games--they let you exercise your brain while spending time with friends. Just recently I've learned East Coast Swing, and some other styles of ballroom dancing.
Music
Garbage, Portishead, Poe, U2, Holly Beth Vincent, Blind Faith and Envy, Tori Amos, Cowboy Junkies, the Cardigans, Manda and the Marbles, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, George Gershwin, a lot of goth/industrial stuff (like, um, the Azoic, Covenant, Switchblade Symphony, VNV Nation), and, in that general electronic vein, synth-pop (Goldfrapp, Blind Faith and Envy, and Invisible Ballet, for example). I've also got a whole lot of classical CD's, and I own a frightening number of Jimmy Buffett albums (though I haven't listened to them much in years). A couple of months ago, I became a DJ for our college radio station, and I now live in constant fear that I'm going to run out of music to play.
Video Games
Video games? Those the things you play on those "gaming consoles", right?
