This morning, as I sat across from some people who are in a position to affect many others lives, I pondered this question; How stupid are these people?! As a MP (Military Police, for the uninitiated) my charge is to Assist, Protect, and Defend any and everyone on my Post. That is my charge and I take it very seriously! We where discussing somethings that had become apparent during the last couple of visits by High Profile individuals. Now this can be a very delicate subject and most be approached with an open mind not to mention a clear understanding of what protecting the populous really means. As the meeting followed it's strict regimental approach, some pencil-necked, over-paid, pompous ass (sorry if I offended anyone in the aforementioned demographic) decided to add something that was not on the agenda. Keep in mind that this usually happens so I was prepared for it. But what I was not prepared for was dim-witted, self-centered that spewed from the hole in his face. Walter Reed has been under a lot of scrutiny since the Wounded Warriors were so badly housed at the facility. Not to mention the contract guards playing bullet tag on one of D.C.s major arteries of traffic.(just a little background information) His statement was this: "Why do the guards hold the shotguns(which, like anyone that carries a rifle or a shogun, should be at the ready) like they do? I think that it scares the people who work here and the people who come here for care. I believe that they should change the way they carry their shotguns." I let that statement sink in a little before that anger took over my face and thoughts. So the head man at the table turned to the Chief and myself to get a better understanding of why the guards carried their shotguns the way that they do. I explained the that it is a show of force, a deterrent to anyone you thinks they could casually come to the installation and try to do harm. Plus it is the best why to respond to any kind of threat posed to any member of the guard force or patrons of the installation. And after he listened to the other members of the panel, he made the decision to have the guards sling their shoguns over their shoulders because they did not want to offend anyone coming on the installation! I have admitted when I have said that someone was stupid and it turned out not to be the case. But this is contemptible!!!!!!!!! Now I ask you, would rather see someone hold a shotgun ready to harm someone who will definitely harm you, or do you want to go around with your head in the sand and be oblivious to what is going on around you. Thank you for your time, now I'm geeting off my soap box.
