For as long as i can remember i've loved to read, i think that's why im such an internet addict, all that information at my fingertips, just waiting to be soaked up.
I suppose i just love the way, when you read, you are magically transported to a far away land, far away from your own reality. My earliest memories of reading just for pleasure, are of Enid Blyton & books like The Magical Faraway Tree & of course the Famous Five books. Ahhh, fond memories. I discovered the Famous Five books at quite a young age, while being looked after by an elderly Great Aunt. She had piles & piles of paperbacks, much to my delight, don't ask me where they came from, i didn't care, what mattered to me was that i was allowed to borrow them, one at a time.
My love of books was so great that i even spent hours pouring over the encyclopedias, relatives would often buy me as gifts. If i wasn't reading them, i was making them, spending many a rainy day writing stories & drawing pictures to go along with them, then stapling all the pages together to create a 'proper book'. To this day i still have a few of those stapled together books lol.
Im even brave enough to admit my love of Dickens stems back to childhood & is partly due to the beautifully bound copies my Dad would buy me as gifts. When i started English Literature in school & began to read poetry & Shakespeare, i thought i'd died & gone to heaven, although it would've been very uncool to let my friends in on this small fact. Don't get me wrong, i just love to read & my life long affair with Stephen King, started when i was around 10 or 11, so i didn't just read the classics.
To this day i'm an avid reader.. One of my favorites now is Dean Koontz..I love his twisted way of thinking and how he keeps you on edge at all times wondering what sick and demented thing is gonna happen next lol (yes i love thriller and horror novels)... Yep i'm just here thinking of all the books & Authors, that have caught my interest & imagination. I guess i am interested to know what books have inspired you to become avid readers or writers.(That's if you are a writer) What were your favorites as a child? Do you still read a lot now?
