My Grandfather

When I was just a boy about the age of 7 or 8 When me and 2 of my male cousins started spending the weekends over at my grandfather's cottage. Who would have guessed that my grandfather would turn out to be a child molester with a thing for little boys? I won't go into details but I will say that it happened almost every weekend for several months and he would bribe us to keep us quiet. After all, what child would think that their parent or grandparent would ever do anything bad to them? Well as one would expect, the scars have lingered for many years since then, but that old man did spend a few years in prison. He plea bargained and didn't serve the full sentence. When he came back my grandfather was not a changed man nor did he show any sign of regret for what he had done in those years prior. In fact not long after he got back he started buying drugs and alcohol for my cousin who did not need them nor could he handle them. They both saw me as a narc and and resented my presense even though I had no intention of getting either of them into trouble. I only wanted to make sure my cousin didn't get stupid and hurt the old man. But they both turned against me even though I was not their enemy. A few years ago justice came after my grandfather, the man named Carl Sherington. He was killed in a robbery attempt. The police actually tried to say that my cousin did it, but they finally caught the killers. I was the only person at the funeral who did not cry for the old man. Belonw is a news article talking about the murder and naming the killers. It makes for an interesting read if you pay very close attention to the names of the killers. Friday, December 13, 2002 Two charged in murder of Carl Sherington. The 88-year-old man was shot and killed in his home on Campau Lake in Caledonia Township last month. Yesterday Ryan Parrish (age 22) of Alto was arraigned for felony murder during a robbery. On Wednesday Wendy Dye (age 20) of Arkansas was also charged, and may be willing to testify against Parrish in return for being able to plead to a lesser charge. They match descriptions of two people who robbed Sherrington two weeks before the killing. They may have come back to rob him again, and it went bad. Detectives think they were selling guns that were stolen from a pawn shop in Arkansas. They were both armed when they were arrested a week after the killing for a disturbance outside a bar in Lake Odessa. Now that they’re both behind bars, police hope to hear from anyone who talked to Parrish and Dye. If they talked about Sherington, the killing or the robbery, people may have kept quiet because they were afraid of Parrish. Police also want to recover the stolen guns, and keep them — and two accused murderers — out of circulation.
