As some of you may know, I live in Cleveland, OH. Our pro basketball team is in the NBA finals. Now this cities major pro teams have not won a major championship for 50 years or so. That being said, I think this city will tear itself apart.
Now the Cleveland sports fan part of me wants to see a Cleveland team win something. I grew up in New England during the Larry Bird years and I also grew up a Red Sox fan (sorry, the "Tribe" will always be #2 in my heart Cleveland fans) so I have seen and felt the joy of seeing my team "win it all". There is almost 2 generations of Cleveland fans who have never had that feeling.
Now, some of you may know this, but I manage an apartment building in downtown Cleveland, about a mile from the "Q" where the Cavs play their home games. This past Saturday, when they won the Eastern Conference finals, downtown went nuts, I got called into work and had to try to protect my building from people trying to celebrate by busting my building up. I kept our damage to a couple of busted beer bottles, but a lot of buildings were not so lucky.
All I am saying is if the Cavs do win it, please if you are watching the city destroy itself on the news (which I hope doesn't happen) please, to whatever god you wish, say a prayer for not only myself, but for the thousands of other men and women trying to protect themselves, their own, and other people's property. My only hope is that if the Cavs win, people will have some sense. I just know better. Go Cavs, I think.
