Ok after my last asthma attack, I decided to sleep in the cool basement. Here is the thing. The basement windows haven't been opened in 6 years. They are fairly new. The kind you can slide a latch and the window drops outward for easy cleaning. Now the upstairs ones open with no problem, am I missing a clip or something somewhere? Help me on what do besides smashing the window :-)
