Today was just unbelievable....
Earlier today, my husband and I went to visit his grandma, Shirley, to see how she was doing and to take her to the grocery store for some groceries. So we go to the store, do our shopping and all. We get down to the cereal aisle and she said she was starting to feel like she was going to pass out. She started leaning towards one of the food shelves and slowly started falling down. Caught her before she fell down and rested her on the floor asking if she was ok.
We had her sitting up and tried talking to her but she wasn't responding. Her face was flushed and her lips were turning blue. She opened her eyes and looked at me. I held onto her hand and kept saying "Grandma, are you okay? Can you hear me?" I kept squeezing her hand and told her to squeeze mine. Her eyes looked so glossy.... I was so scared.
I asked her again "Can you hear me, squeeze my hand if you can" She gave a little squeeze and I asked if she was okay. She shook her head no. Then she said she was feeling really hot, so I unbuttoned her sweater to help cool her off. A few co-workers came by and asked what happened and if they could do anything. We told him to get some help. They called 911 and the fire truck and ambulance came.
They asked us a bunch of questions on what happened. So we told them. Grandma started to feel a little bit stronger and kept saying that she didn't want to go to the hospital...but of course we took her there. Rich rode in the ambulance with grandma while I drove our car to the hospital. They did a bunch of tests. Blood pressures, chest x-rays and whatever..... We were at the hospital for at least 5 hours.
Grandma is one of the most strongest and healthiest person I know for her age. She's 82 years old but she's really strong. After today, it was just so scary because everything was normal during shopping then all of a sudden that all happened. The doctors think that her heart was just beating irregularly. Everything else looked fine. My husband is taking tomorrow off from work on a FML (Family Medical Leave) to watch over her.
During the stay at the hospital.... Rich calls his father to let him know what happened. Turns out that his dad just got some results in from the MRI and he's getting real close to being crippled. He's always had a bad back and for a while, he's been having some major back problems in the spine area. There are two things that he can do.... he can do a surgery that will cost around $80.000, his work will pay for some of it.....or he can do this 9 week treatment thing to where they stretch your back or something? That's around $9.000.
Two family problems in just one day. Rich and I are the only ones that are around to help Grandma out and money is being so tight right now. We're trying to get her into a home, sell her house...etc etc. and now Rich's dad is having some problems. We're trying to figure out how we're going to gather all this money.
Rich's dad said to take all of his baseball card collections and sell them. He thinks he can get maybe around 2-3 grand for the cards and he's going to sell some of his coin collections.
We don't have the slightest idea how to sell baseball cards without being cheated on. Anyone have any ideas? On what to look out for?
Rich and I are going to be working extra days now at work for sure.... we need to gather up money for all this, plus some issues that we're having on our end...
Sigh....Just a crazy day.... So stressed out...I lost my last grandparent last year, a few days after my birthday. Feb 27th.....Shirley has always been a true grandma for me, even if it's not by blood..... I love her as if she was though.
