I opened my e-mail the other day to find a note that seemed right up my alley. Seems someone wanted me to vote for my favorite chocolate and I had to choose between plain M&M's and peanut M&M's.
What a wonderful choice to be asked to make. Too bad all of life's choices aren't that easy. I will happily eat either variety. However, I really like peanuts so I checked that box and waited for the computer to tell me which fabulous gift card I woulld get for my effort.
Just then the screen changed and instead of my reward, I found lots of questions. The "research firm" that was doing the "survey" wanted to know everything but my shoe size. And, my shoe size is the only piece of information that I felt comfortable giving them.
I clicked forward a few screens to see what it would take for me to get that "valuable prize" and found that they actually thought I might be dumb enough to give them all sorts of information like my home address, phone number, full name, date of birth, and which type of credit cards I use. People can start whole new countries in someone's name with less information! Then, in tiny little bity letters at the bottom of the screen, they said they reserve the right not to send me my "valuable prize" unless I meet all requirements for participation in the survey. And, they didn't bother telling me what the requirements were in the e-mail.
Guess I will just have to give up and go buy my own M&M's Friday. I am going to buy a HUGE bag with peanuts. {Giggles} The e-mail did end up giving me one great prize---it made me realize that I am not greedy enough to throw caution (and intelligence) out of the window to try and get their prize. And that was quite a good feeling.
