Last time you checked your name wasn't Sugar Daddy/Mama. So why is it that your friend keeps looking at you to pick up the tab?
These days it's easy to find yourself in an awkward moment when it comes to dealing with friends and money.
You go out for dinner, and they expect you to pick up the check.
It's happened to all of us! Well..... At least most of us. As soon as the waiter drops off the check, everyone at the table becomes engrossed in their text messages, cuticles, or anything else that keeps them from looking at the bill.
Instead of being the one to pick up the check, try this move instead. Offer to split the tab, then lay down your card and hand them the bill holder so that they can do the same. If that doesn't get them to put down the plastic, you may need to reach for a little white lie.
Say something like...
I just spent a ton of money on my trip to visit my parents and I just can't cover. It's sad that you have to resort to these types of tactics, but you have to make people take responsibilty for their portion!
Stop allowing friends to mooch on you when they're capable of taking care of themselves.
If not.... This type of behavior will only get them comfortable and will definetly continue over the course of time. |
