A Pasadena man is facing serious federal charges after officials say he aimed a 300mw green laser at a Houston Police Department helicopter.
Julio Cesar Valdez-Salazar, 26, was indicted on Oct. 7, charged with aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft.
Aiming a 1000mw Laser Pointer at an aircraft is a violation of Title 18 U.S.C. Section 39A. Valdez-Salazar could face up to five years in federal prison and an additional $250,000 fine if convicted in the incident that occurred on June 23, 2015.
Back in Sept. 2013 another man, Margarito Tristan III from South Texas, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for aiming a 50mw Green Laser Pointer at a Border Patrol helicopter. He admitted to officials that he aimed the laser pointer at the helicopter in March 2013.
