SPECIALIST CREED

No one is more abused than I. I am the Shield Bearer, a scapegoat of sergeants. As a Specialist, I realize that I am a member of a non-honored shield, which is known as "The Backbone of the NCO".

I am proud of the Shield and will at all times conduct myself so as to try and bring credit upon the Shield, the lower enlisted and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I willnot use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety because I do not have the rank.

Overworked is my watch word. My two basic responsibilites will always be uppermost in my mind--accomplishment of my mission and make my Sergeant look good. I will strive to remain quiet and do what I am told. I am aware of my role as a Specialist. I will fulfill my responsibilities and my Sergeant's if necessary. All Sergeants are entitled to outstanding Specialists. I will be that Specialist. I know my Sergeants and I will always do what I am told. I will communicate consistently with my Sergeants and never leave them uninformed. I will stand tall and be quiet when getting blamed for missions not being accomplished that were not my responsibility.

Lower enlisted soldiers of my unit will have maximum time to learn the ropes; I will accomplish their mission along with mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as my Sergeants. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of my Sergeants. I will not compromise my integrity; nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Specialists, one day leaders!
