Hey Chris here 21 From Long Island! Normal Cute Fun Outgoing Guy!! Gay Since Birth and Proud of It!!Ever Wonder if there is life out there? Answer: of course!! it would be very conceited of us to think that we're the only things out there. we are living on a small planet, orbiting an average-sized star, in an average, typical galaxy. there are billions of stars just like ours out there, in billions of galaxies, which in turn are clustered into galactic clusters..which are orbiting in superclusters (if you look at a schematic diagram of our universe, superclusters are organized in a filamentary structure...it's interesting). now...in terms of actually making and sustaining contact with these other life forms...that's near impossible. the closest star to ours, proxima centauri, is a little over 4 light years away. even if there were a civilization intelligent enough to send signals our way, living on a planet orbiting proxima centauri, no form of radiation is superluminal (travels faster than the speed of light), so it'd take hundreds of years just to reach us one way. as for the other billions of stars, well...our civilization is a blip on the cosmic time scale...so by the time any other civilization's signals do reach us, we or they would be long gone. Take the Drake Equation, for instance (just to determine an actual numerical probability for perception).. N=N*f(p)n(e)f(l)f(i)f(c)f(L).. where N* represents the number of stars in the Milky Way,f(p) is the fraction of stars with planets orbiting them, n(e) is the number of planets per star that are capable of sustaining life, f(l) is the fraction of planets in n(e) where life evolves, f(i) is the fraction of f(l) where intelligent life evolves, f(c) is the fraction of f(i) that communicates, and lastly f(L) is the fraction of a planet's life during which communicating civilizations live.
