Man charged in high-speed chase18-year-old caused damage to cars, storeAugust 11, 2008 - 10:24 PMTimes-NewsAn 18-year-old from Burlington was charged Monday with causing a July 23 police chase that began in Graham and ended when he crashed at Golf Cart World on East Webb Avenue. The Graham Police Department charged Kyle Marlon Garrison with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, driving left of center, resisting a public officer and two counts of hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. Bond was set at $1,000.Following the chase, Garrison was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center, then released into the custody of his mother. He then went to Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro with unknown injuries. Authorities were unable to serve the warrants until now because he was recovering from injuries. The chase started when Graham Cpl. Keith Bradshaw and Officer Gregory McDaniel saw a gold 2001 Cadillac speeding at 11:08 a.m. on July 23 in downtown Graham. The officers attempted to pull the driver over, but he took off toward Tasty Bakery on North Main Street. He hit a Toyota, causing approximately $800 in damage and continued into a parking lot between the bakery and Frank's Jewelry."Once he drove in the parking lot, he did various evasive maneuvers, went over curbing and grass and ended up in a municipal parking lot on Harden Street," Graham police Capt. Steve McGilvray said at the time of the chase. The driver pulled out of the parking lot and headed west on Harden Street toward Burlington. He pulled in front of an ABC Store near the intersection of West Harden and West Elm streets. He spun around and was driving head-on toward police, who veered right to avoid hitting him, McGilvray said. The driver went out to West Elm Street toward Burlington speeding between 80 and 100 mph, although officers said they did not feel comfortable driving that fast.Around East Webb Avenue and Anthony Street, he ran off the right side of the road, missed a pole, but collided with debris, a mailbox and some trash cans. The Cadillac ended up in the gravel parking lot of Golf Cart World and collided with a parked pick-up truck. He then hopped out and led officers on a foot chase into the Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club on Stockard Street. He was quickly arrested and no one inside the club was injured.
