YOUNG MAN
When I was a young man, the old folks use to say
take it slow and easy every day
young man, they would say, your youth won't last
you'll just turn around and it will be gone oh so fast
Now that I can see the sun starting to set
I can see the beauty of life, like we had just met
when I was a young man, everything seemed so
faraway
but now it's so close, I can see its decay
When I was a young man, everything seemed so shinny and new
now with the passing of time, it's all tarnished and blue
When I was a young man, I believed at the end of the rainbow sat a pot of gold
because when I was a young man, we tended to believe what we were told
When I was a young man, people took a lot for granted
God, country, and Love, I know I did
When I was a young man, everything seemed so pure
the longer I live the more I learn, and now I'm not so sure
When I was a young man, girls breast pointed to the sky
now after all these years, it seems like something has gone awry
When I was a young man, a good west wind and I'd be at attention
now things have gone south, thank God for the little blue pill for a little intervention
When I was a young man, day was day and night was night
wrong was wrong and right was right
but then it was day and I couldn't see the light
right was wrong and wrong was right
I can finally say, young man listen to this old man
I'll try to speak as slow and clear as I can
young man you are moving fast and bold
but someday, if you live long enough, you too will get old
