Who Serves who?

Improvised version
The Mistress stood in her own front yard,
Watching her submissive vanish into the night.
With a smiling face and a farewell wave,
And a tear that he could not see, nor could she fight.
Another week had come and gone.
In which each had served and been served as well.
Though both did dread the time when they would part,
A special and bittersweet kind of hell.
She thought of the collar that he did wear,
That so proudly proclaimed to whom he belonged.
It said who would send her thanks if to him, honors were paid,
Or extract vengeance if he were wronged.
She thought of how he stood watch over her,
To sooth away the nightmares that disturbed her sleep.
And how when she did awaken and found herself safe,
Like a child, into his arms she would creep.
As the Mistress turned to her doorway with a sigh.
"For all we give, each for the other" she thought,
And for all we each for the other do.
"She wiped away the tear and smiled a soft and secret smile,
And wondered just who it was, that served who.
